Re: Howdy
Lots of patience... Chaos is a slower start, killer-at-the-end-of-season team....
Consider caging with Warriors and grinding the opponent (kick to opponent, force them to score asap, you score on turn 8; receive in second half and score on turn 16) for the 2-1 win....
Look for starting lineups and tactics in this thread's section: viewforum.php?f=25
And remember that blitzing no longer requires moving a square first... so you have an effective force of 5 x St4s per turn (blitzing with the Beastman)....

Sure Hands on a beastie. I can't tell you how many simple 3+ pickups my bumbling beasties have booted over the years. Don't get me started on my CWs lack of coordination around the "ball." Crushing, they get. Ball, not so much.

Must be from the same neighborhood as my ghouls and vampires....lawquoter wrote:Sure Hands on a beastie. I can't tell you how many simple 3+ pickups my bumbling beasties have booted over the years. However, having Ag3 (instead of Ag2 like a Nurgle Warrior), you could skill up the Warriors quicker by handing off to them near the goal line.... Provided, of course, you've sufficiently beat/run off the opposition....

Yes, don't be afraid to use the CWs. They have more ability than the nurgle. The most frustrating thing is when they can't break AV 7. Which happens.Digger Goreman wrote: Must be from the same neighborhood as my ghouls and vampires....![]()

Re: Howdy
I tend to agree with most of the advice given.
I like to start in a fairly vanilla fashion. 4CW, 7 Beastmen, 3 Team RRs gets you 1M points. Buy an APOC as soon as you win 50K. If you're in a bashy league you may need to pick up an extra Beastman or two .... if you're in a bash light league a Team RR would likely serve you well. As you build up try to keep 100K [at least] in the bank just in case you need to replace a CW or a Beastman.
When playing there's a few ways to go.
On defense the CWs can easily enough get blown up at the line [well against the good bash teams anyway] so you might not want to put them there. Consider putting them on the wings or as backup to the LOS. This may come down to knowing how your opponnent likes to play and trying to take that away from them. Either way keep one or more Beastmen back as Blitz threats as this may keep teams honest as they have to respect a STR4 Blitz. Note ... against non-bashy teams that can get away from the CWs I don't think I'd waste them on the line. Have them mobile enough where some could attack any cages in reach. A lot of times you have to hope you can bog down your opponnent and they make a mistake or you dodge a marked player away for a 2D blitz on a ball carrier and hope for the best.
On offense you have even more options. Tradition says to put the CWs on the LOS to blow that away and have a Beastman in a cage [with as many CWs as you can] participating. You may even need to Blitz off markers on a CW so they can be free to move to help with the cage. Using this approach try to grind the opponnent down. Consider handing off the ball to a CW if possible for the TD to skill them up early. Another approach which is highly league dependent is to drop your CWs back and have a pre-built ST4 cage waiting. Having 3 CW cagers, some Beastman harrassers / cloud guys, and a ST4 ball carrier can cause problems if the other teams can't deal with the STR concentration.
Oddly I kind of like the CW cage because otherwise I'm tempted to bash as hard often as I can. This can be a mistake for Chaos because they don't have a lot of football skills [Block, Dodge, Catch, Pass, Sure Hands, etc.] to start with so you need every single RR for the basics. With the CW cage and making the minimum number of blocks required to move your cage [often by having a trailing CW blitz a marker off of him then move to the front, other CWs advance 1 sq with blocks, then having the ball carrier move up a few squares so he's in the middle of the cage again isn't bad. Another benefit to this is your CWs will tend to go up quicker as they have the ball a lot or are at least around a lot of the action.
In terms of skills you can and possibly should experiment. I like 3 CWs with Block, Mighty Blow, Claw [maybe Stand Firm instead of Claw or MB?] .... I like 1 CW with Block, Sure Hands, Mighty Blow so "strip ball" isn't very useful and you hopefully have someone close by that can snag the ball if it pops out on offense or defense.
For beastman I like to vary things up too:
-- A general guy with Kick, Sure Hands, Stand Firm isn't bad
-- A safety [or two?] with some combination of Wrestle, Tackle, Strip Ball, Frenzy is useful
-- Some utility guys with Block & Guard [or Guard & Block] will be needed vs. Orcs, Dwarves, etc.
Developed speed & AG teams will be your weakness. They have so many weapons to score that it's hard to tie up enough of their threats and your safetys can only do so much. You may not have many options other than hope they get the ball, score quick, you cage up well enough that they can't get to you [better pick up the ball!], score in T8, then repeat the T8 score for a win. If you can grind down a low AV team you have a chance but you need a lot of lucky POWs vs. those sorts of teams.
Note: I find that if I build my teams so they have a better chance of stopping speed & AG teams then the better bashy teams have their way with me. You will need to pick your poison and build your team accordingly.
