Leap or Sidestep...

Post by Mojoshenpo »

... for a first skill on a Skaven Gutter Runner? I.E., given only those two choices, which would you prefer?

Well I voted.... but I wouldn't pick either skill as a first for a Gutter....

Block or extra movement is the order of the day.

Yes you should take block first.
But of those 2 options i would go for sidestep as leap is not very good unless you have AG 5.

Of the two I'd take sidestep, so I can safely run the sidelines.

Block first on a normal skill. Either dauntless or horns on a double and pray for a stat increase.

Out of those 2 sidestep is more useful unless you've got +AG.

My preferred Dev Tree:
(S) = Standard Skill
(D) = Doubles

S,S,S - Block, Sidestep, Shadowing
D,S,S - Dauntless, Block, Strip Ball
D,D,S - Dauntless, Horns, Block
D,D,D - Dauntless, Horns, Spikes

Tweak to suit the order in which the doubles fall. Dauntless is always first double though.

NB: I play a very aggressive defence and rarely use 1 turners so this suits my style of play.

Ian will tell you how much he hates horns/dauntless Gutter Runners.

I went for Side Step - bitter experience has taught me that Leap on an AG4 player is just a way to waste re-rolls.

Having said all that, Side Step is definitely not the best first skill. Definitely Block is. It's the same as for many of the other players that start with Dodge... by giving them Block you protect them a bit more.

(Applies to amazons, witch elves, human and wood elf catchers, and ghouls particularly.)
