Why? the fresh ones come back "good as new" with blodge already in the package.
I agree though I hate to expose them to fire, but if you have the cash (big IF) remember that they come already good to score and 1 or 2 games away from their next level up. Which could be that mighty Strength or Ag.

I think I'll at least baby this wardancer, since I've got a doubles on them.

Though the "good as new" bit is a good point, maybe doing the whole sidestep/diving tackle thing isn't so risky.

Though I lean against what they're famous for, leaping into cages. Now if my opponent is going to try and grind it out until their last turn and the win matters than sure, it's time to put some dice on the table. But otherwise you're making a defenders choice block after having to risk burning a reroll on the leap, and even if all goes well the dancer is probably surrounded by smelly hairy burly things with horrorshow boots.

The appeal of sidestep/diving tackle is that you can apply it with only the ball carrier having a TZ on them after your standard blitz of a corner. Blitzing with the ball carrier is risky, and blitzing with a different player might be tricky.

I don't disagree that recycling WD can be a okay thing, but I hate taking the time to get them the few skills that I basically require of them (Frenzy, Sidestep & Tackle, Strip Ball) when I can be working on making my Line elfs better....

When my WD get to 16 SPP they don't get the ball anymore. They go knock it out, or knock opposing players off the pitch... then all the other elfs scramble about tossing the ball about and scoring TDs.

Matt, you do come out with some drivel.

Guard is one of, if not the best defensive skill in the game (or in Slater-World, the "non-acting" team)

Wow. Drivel?

I didn't say it has no passive use, or even that its passive uses aren't good and frequent, just that it's even better before your opponent gets to game around it. But just as far as preventing pushes and knockdowns goes, it's not Block, Dodge, Side Step or Stand Firm. The Guard player can be blocked, a different angle can be taken, all sorts of things. Again, still it has clear value there. It's also good if your opponent forgets about it, though I have to say that's pretty rare down here.

Ditto, except I stop giving them the ball at 6 spp's. They'll still get the occasional defensive td anyway.
