How do I get blocked less often?

Post by Trollblanc »

I currently play goblins in our league and against attrition teams I get blocked far too often.
I try to position my goblins "in their way" but not adjacent to them (to force them only having a blitz per round), but after round 2, latest 3 far too many gobbos are in base contact with those pesky enemies.

I want to start my turn with the actions with the highest probabilities of success, but after standing up or moving some goblins the "highest probability of success" actions tend to be 2 die blocks with trolls or dodges with a reroll on a 3+ (out to an empty field).
One of those actions (the block or one of the dodges) will almost always fail, so the "rest" of the goblins that did not dodge yet is stuck with the enemy to get a beating.

Therefore: How can I position my gobbos better to NOT get them blocked :)

thank you

PS: To include a newbie rant: I hate sure feet! My pogoer has it and the 2 times I used it yet it was a 1 reroll 1 on both attempts.

Scoring is a good way to get hit only 4 times... but with Goblins it's a little tough.

I would advise you to play another team if you don't like getting blocked so often. Maybe Underworld would suit you it has goblins in. I don't think there is a magic formula to get your goblins out of harms' way but dodging. By the way it's ALWAYS 3+ in the open or in the cage does not matter.

I think you have it right, when I play against goblins I try to get as much green bits in my TZ, either to get a lovely block next turn (and SPP) or to see them fail their 3+ dodge and die miserably.

It's the way this team goes, they dodge until they turn over. With time you will see that most dodge succeed, not all of them though.

Spread your gobbos out, but not so much that opponents can run between them.
When you do dodge, start dodging with anything standing next to an opponent with block.
Sometimes it is worth it to move such dodgers next to a gobbo that (with assists) cab get a 2-dicer. He won't have loner, so is bette off than the troll.

Trollblanc - you are not doing anything wrong. Gobbos are born to die.

You will get some turns when you can play conservatively and keep most of them out of harm's way. But you will get many turns (and whole drives) when you have to take risks early in the turn in order to put pressure on your opponent.

Worrying about Gobbo safety, or taking risks in order to protect them, is probably not a wise way to play this team.

All the best.

block them you first!! if the other player hasn't got block some time is better you to block than dodge, even if you roll two dices and he chooses!!!

If you're only goal is to avoid a turnover, blocking them would be foolish seeing as:

3+ Roll with re-roll (AG3 Dodge) = 11.1% risk of turnover
2 dice against Block (Without Block skill) = 55.56% risk of turnover

Basic play tips for gobbos that I've seen used successfully:

1) Spread out to minimize the amount of gobbos he can tag:

-- gg -- --|gg -- -- gg -- -- gg|-- -- gg --

2) use gobbos to get assists to your gobbos and use blocks to free your goblins. A goblin 2die block is 1/81 to turn over, not 1/9 (RR availability).
3) Try to get block on your trolls.
4) Use the looney, to free goblins and kill opponents, again just 1/36 turnover here.
5) Avoid 3+ dodges whenever you can, and keep spreading so you dont have to take too many at a time.

6) And most important, don't play dwarves/Chaos dwarves ;).

I just once in over 100 matches with goblins on line beated Dwarves 2-0 with my maniacs, simply everything I tried worked,... you can't imagine my satisfaction. Is well worth 20 defeats!!
