An approch which works for the dwarfs and Orcs but thats about it...IMHO anyway. I love my dwarf team.Relborn wrote:as said here many times before, the 3rd edition minis just need weapons to look like WFB minis ...
Which race/team has better looking 3rd ed minis than 2nd ed?

I just organizing my bb archive at my website.
While doing so i´m taking picts of each mini of my collection. Still unpainted or already painted. And i just can say, no 3.ed team is better than any 2.ed team... IMO. I thought about putting a 3.ed team in my archive, but i still prefer to put the 2.ed teams online at first.
So i can not vote for any team ...
Just wondering, how my opinion will be when i get the ogre team or the rotters...
BTW... galak, if you read this. Which edition we are now with the new minis ? Still 4.ed or a new 5.ed ?

Yes, they are very, very few 3rd. ed. minis that pass my classic-taste test:
the orcblitzer is ok, the new Troll is not bad (except that silly helmet, I'm thinking about clipping the top spike) and the nurgle rotters look fine, as you can use them as chaos mutants/chaos warriors and zombies.
I voted for the Undead as the 2nd ed. ones were real crap, but before I use the 3rd ed. undead player, I would try to get my hands on Citadel classic mummies and ghouls, which look great. Except the new Wights, they're fine...

as one of the rare few who actually likes the stupid big hats on teh chaos dwarfs (though i also consider the marauder chaos dwarf line on eof the greatest in warhammer history, i can like both versions of the race), i'd have to say that that's probably the only team i prefer in the new incarnation, though, that said, i don't like the hobgoblins at all...

I really like the look of the 3rd ed Chaos Dwarfs as well and painted in the right colors they can look quite cool, like these (not mine):

I tried to use the same colors for my Chaos Dwarfs for the Blood Bowl Tournament and i'm quite happy on how they turned out.

I'm a little torn between the 2nd and 3rd ed. figs and since I feel a really good paint job can make almost ANY fig stand out dramatically (my Zug and even the "ugly" Griff do get some oo's and ahs from rookie palyers).
That said, I can understand some player's preference between the 2nd ed AND the 3rd ed dwarfs (BOTH have plusses and minusses). I ended up selling the 3rd ed. dwarves (I've painted up ENOUGH Norse for Blood Bowl and Mordheim so short Vikings had to go!) and am in the process of making a "evil" Dwarf team out of the Plastic Dungeonbowl dwarfs with added spikes and horns and using the 2nd ed Chaos Dwarfs for the position players with a 3rd ed slayer and Grim Ironjaw finishing up the team. I LOVE the 3rd ed. Chaos Dwarfs-so there!
I actually appreciate some of Gary Morley's work but more importantly I appreciate his original enthusiasm for the game. I really like the 3rd ed. Goblins more so than the static 2nd ed. gobbos. Who knows if there would have EVER been a Norse Team or a new metal Human team if he didin't sculpt these teams for his own personal use back in the early 90's?
THAT being said-I SOOO prefer the 2nd ed. Skaven to the boring 3rd ed. figs.
Oh and 2nd ed. Dark Elves suck.

The Mino-Blockers suck, agreed.narkotic wrote:But I have to admit, I accepted the 3rd ed. Big guys, the Troll and the mino are nice, the RatOgre is cool, the Ogre sucks, whereas apart from the 2nd. ed. Ogres many Big guys looked silly (Treeman) or boring (Minotaurs). The 3rd ed. Star Players are all loonies and be better banned into the Kindergarten.
But the Blitzer is definitely my favourite BB-miniature. Then comes Frank N. Stein, followed by the Chaos Dwarf with a Prussian helmet and the "scarfy" gobbo-hool.

Old is good!
None of the new teams look any better than their old version - well, the Indians-cum-Dork-Elves may be an exception, but I don't like the 3rd Ed Elves any better. The main problem with the new teams is recognition on the field. All races have way to few linemen, so one invariably ends up fielding duplicates of each mini; all the elves in one side look just the same, I cannot tell Wood Elf Catchers and Linemen apart. Same with Dark Elf Blitzers and Linemen, even with Skeletons and Wights. I like to be able to tell my players apart at a glance, so I know which skill is going where. IMO, Morley's Undead team blows chunks. I ended up converting Warhammer minis for my team, mixing them with the 2nd Ed. Starplayers

The obvious 3rd ed teams are better then the 2nd, Norse, Amazons and Lizardmen, mainly because they didn't exist/never made

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

Re: Old is good!
their poses are totally different, the catchers are more "open". plus they have gloves on! that's the biggest thing!boondog wrote:I cannot tell Wood Elf Catchers and Linemen apart.
again the pose is key. the line elves face forwards, the blitzers to the side. very easy.boondog wrote:Same with Dark Elf Blitzers and Linemen,
i don't like the bb skellies either (clothes?! what the?!)...that's why i bought a box of warhammer skellies and did em up.boondog wrote:even with Skeletons and Wights.

Dwarves
I play dwarves and I gotta say the second edition dwarves are really stupid looking. Everybody in motion is in an awkward and unrealistic pose, and 3rd ed looks so much better.
I'm actually painting a bunch of second ed dwarves to be a team of mean-looking halflings! The BEARDIES don't even have BEARDS!
