Double 5 on my unskilled linerat - what to take?

Post by Olaf the Stout »

I manged to get a skill and rolled a double 5 on an unskilled Skaven linerat in my league game last night. Obviously this gives me a lot of options. Bear in mind that the team is only 3 games old and he is the first player outside of the Gutter Runners to skill up. Here is what I am tossing up at the moment:

+MA - Probably not. With AG3, no skills and a high likelihood of being on the LOS at some stage during the game I can't see him getting a lot of use out of it.

+AV - AV8 will help a little, but still isn't really that great. Basically ruled out at this stage.

Kick - Kick is a big priority on Skaven teams and this skill normally goes to the first skilled linerat. If I rolled a normal skill then this would have been a no brainer. The fact that I rolled a double has me considering other possibilities, but Kick is still right up near the top of my choices.

Guard - There isn't any Guard on the team at the moment so any Guarders would certainly help. The downside is that he doesn't really have the good agility to get where he is most needed or any survival skills like Block or Dodge to keep him standing. An AV7 Guarder without Block, Dodge or Wrestle is probably going to have a short lifespan.

Diving Tackle - Will make him good at marking up anyone in my backfield, or the ball carrier if he gets a chance. His agility of 3 counts against him again though as he may have difficulty moving to where he needs to be.

Shadowing - MV7 is good for Shadowing. Kick is probably more urgently needed at this point though.

Dodge - Give him more mobility and more survival on the LOS. Is it more important than Kick at this stage though?

Block - Another skill that will help him survive on the LOS. Will also help him to get more SPP's from Cas's. Is a normal skill though.

Foul Appearance - A good survival skill for the LOS as well as a good skill to frustrate the opposition with.

At the moment the options I am considering most strongly are Dodge, Guard, Kick, Diving Tackle and Disturbing Presence with the first 3 skills higher on the list than the last 3. I'd really like to make use of the double, but at this point I'm wondering if doing the team thing and getting Kick is the best option to take.

Thoughts? The only other skills on the team at the moment are on 3 Gutter Runners, 1 with Wrestle, 1 with Block and 1 with +AG.

Guard. Best by a mile. If you can beef Skaven up slightly it makes such a difference to them.

Guard 'cause it's awesome on a skaven team. If this linerat ever gets to the second skill, he'll make an even better asset with Block and Guard. That's about as much a linerat can expect to contribute.

Guard.

Only consider +AV on 6+4's, usually even than after block OR wrestle OR on a player with multiskills (I have it on a guard/tackle/+ST norseman's 6+4).

Dodge would be ok if he had some uber skills already. Claw better on your blitzers.

Guard patrol, sounding off.

If you want to be cute, Sidestep is a distant #2 option, because all your A access comes on ST2 pieces. But, even so, Guard.

In our league, Guard would also be considered the "automatic" choice.

Over and out.
