Best Double Skill for a Witch Elf
Hi you all, I have been pondering on the best double skill for a Witch.
Most people say:
Mighty Blow
Juggernaut
but what about Grab?
Sure Mighty Blow is a great but quite a random skill: you can't really now what it will pay off. I have tried juggernaut and thought it was nice in theory but in practice it is rather situational. Only 1 side of the d6 benefits from it and it only works on a blitz. Plus sides are: you can counter Stand Firm and Fend.
So it got me thinking about Grab: it is less situational and can work wonders to make those crowd pushes happen. I also helps wonders when getting off that second Frenzy block at 2d. As it is active all the time (not only blitzing) and on 4 sides of the blocking die it will be a much more usefull skill. On the plus side: it also cancels out Side-Step, which is a skill I see much more used than Stand Firm, simply because Agility access players tend to skill up faster. On the other side, strength access players tend to have a lot of strength and making blitzes at 1/2d is not my favorite choice, even when I try a crowd push.
So my vote goes on Grab on doubles and move MB to blitzers.

i would go Mighty slap as it helps her "HURT" things.
also note that a player with the frenzy skill can never learn or gain the grab skill.

I Like Mighty Blow. My Witches hit . . . a lot. In fact, I feel like I am wasting them if they are not hitting. So Mighty Blow is a no brainer for me.
I used to put Mighty blow on my Blitzers as well, but I am leaning more towards Guard with them.

Yeah, grab isn't an option.
I think in general you'd be best served by MB. However I voted for Juggernaut because it's more fun. It might actually be better if you find your losses come from the AV9 teams hitting you up with a 2-1 grind.
Since they lack side step except on doubles jug negates the positioning skills they would have, and gives you more crowd push and chain push opportunities. Also it could be generally good for shoving their formations apart. I find that's how dwarves are best broken.

Oh, crap, that's why I didn't see anyone pick it, because it isn't allowed because it would be very powerful.
So I guess Grab in a Dark Elf team is something rarely achieved, you would only give it to a Blitzer once you already have about 2-3 guards on the team.
Yes, this does make the choice on a double on the Witch a lot easier, Juggernaut is nice but only when facing a lot of strength teams.

The fact that frenzy players can not learn grab has been pointed out already. But due to how this sentence was worded, I want to clarify one more minor detail.El_Jairo wrote: As it is active all the time (not only blitzing) and on 4 sides of the blocking die it will be a much more usefull skill. Grab is always active, but during a blitz it only cancels side step. So you can only choose from the three regular push back squares (assuming they're empty).

Re: Best Double Skill for a With Elf
Depends.
In a tournament or very short term league, I'd prefer Guard over MB. Guard that you can reliably reposition is the shizzle.
Otherwise, MB is great. Witches do a lot of my hitting, so yes if she can develop with other skills such as Block/Tackle then MB is lovely.

+1 for Juggernaut
We have a Dark Elf coach who simply owned the sidelines, even at high TV because of a Juggernaut Witch Elf. You don't ever even have to use the skill. Just having it should keep bash coaches from thinking twice about going to the sideline or building a cage that relies on stand firm.

That said, frenzy does offer some interesting ways to use guard. Instead of dodging into a cage, you can frenzy block your way in.

El_Jairo - I would consider Grab as a second doubles roll on a Blitzer (after Guard).El_Jairo wrote:So I guess Grab in a Dark Elf team is something rarely achieved, you would only give it to a Blitzer once you already have about 2-3 guards on the team.
My preferred doubles pick on the Witches is Juggernaut, although I have yet to test this in practice - in 2 long seasons I have not got a double on the Witches yet.
And I take Wrestle on the Witches, not Block.
All the best.

Mighty Blow! Mighty Blow on a Witch is great. Follow with Wrestle, SS, Leap, hunt ball carriers.
Grab is doubles #3 for me on High Elf linos (that is, if I have 2x Guard, the next one is Grab). I'm not sure I'd take it on a Dark Elf team; obviously, it can't be on a Witch, but I mean on anybody. On High Elves, it's a 1TTD threat, because of the MA8 Catchers. I use it as a basher aid on heavy teams. I like it as a doubles skill on a Norse lino as a Frenzy feeder, but any given one of that Norse Lino's teammates is 50% likely to have Frenzy, as opposed to 20% for the DElf. I could see trying to engineer some downfield blocks with Dark Elves, at least against light teams. I couldn't see myself salivating at the idea. I'd rather load up on Guard.

What is Nuffle's view? Through a window, two-by-three. He peers through snake eyes.
What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

Matt - just to clarify, I mean Grab as a second doubles roll on a Blitzer who already has Guard (not as a second doubles roll for the team).

Typical Matt. That makes no sense. If you want to hunt ball carriers, what is the synergy with MB? If a Witch gets MB first then she should become the killer... Block, Tackle etc. The other Witch can go the Wrestle route.mattgslater wrote:Mighty Blow! Mighty Blow on a Witch is great. Follow with Wrestle, SS, Leap, hunt ball carriers.

2 witches: 1 with MB/Tackle/Piling on
1 with Juggernaut wrestle
it's the ideal combination
