Legendary edition, Sethekh change of name: Nekbekerekh
List of starplayers for the legendary edition is on line now.
But there is a new one, Nekbrekerekh...
Explanation by the focus CM:
"As the Snow Troll are now called Yhetees, Sethek is now known as Nekbrekerekh.
It's a change wanted by Games Workshop and that is included for Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition.
That's why you'll be able to play with Nekbrekerekh and not with Setekh, even if they are the same."
Is this Nekbrekerekh existed in old rules?
I don't remember, and what could be the reason GW wanted this change of name?

Re: Legendary edition, Sethekh change of name: Nekbekerekh
Just saw this in the LE version I got.
Gotta love GW ... making Cyanide change the name but leaving the CRP up on their website with the original name for the player.
And what is wrong with Setekh. I picked that name because he was the Egyptian god of thieves and Setekh is meant to be a ball thief.
Sigh ... he is not a Neckbreaker ... if you are going to rename him ... at least pick a name that matches his character ... insert my GW is stupid #10352 item on my list.
Galak

He is ST4 with Block and Juggernaut, I don't see the problem. Not like all the star players have a name related to their role. Griff Oberwald, Lord Borak etc, not everyone needs to be named by tabloid headline staff!

You're trying to tell me that Griff "Over-Trees" doesn't like leaping?!Coach wrote:He is ST4 with Block and Juggernaut, I don't see the problem. Not like all the star players have a name related to their role. Griff Oberwald, Lord Borak etc, not everyone needs to be named by tabloid headline staff!

Because changing the skillset in later editions of course makes the initial point invalid :pCoach wrote:Griff Oberthehill doesn't have Leap any more...

For me its more the point of why change the name in Cyanide when the rules on their site aren't changed. Yeah I like my name for him better .... but its GW doing inconsistent stuff that drives me nuts.Coach wrote:He is ST4 with Block and Juggernaut, I don't see the problem. I just don't get why they bothered, it's not as if they seem to care much about Blood Bowl, save when they seem to be spiting those of us who actually play it.

Re: Legendary edition, Sethekh change of name: Nekbekerekh
It is possibly (conditional) linked to the fact that Sethekh already exists, and they prefer to own the name of the player for copyright reasons.
every company can make a miniatures (for instance) looking like an egyptian god playing football and call him by his name: Setekh. Even though the spelling is different it's too close from home for GWS.
Just a guess, could be miles off.

Names are not complex enough to qualify for copyright. You can register a name as a trademark to prevent other people from using it - hell, they could trademark the football playing mummy image and go after you for infringing on that regardless of what you named yours. I don't think GW has taken out a ton of trademarks on individual character names, just broader things like "Skaven".Greyhound wrote:It is possibly (conditional) linked to the fact that Sethekh already exists, and they prefer to own the name of the player for copyright reasons.

Re: Legendary edition, Sethekh change of name: Nekbekerekh
sorry I didn't mean so much as in Copyrighting everything but more into making there characters their own brand.
If a company start making a mini of an undead named Nekbrekerekh they might have more weight calling this a rip off. As you pointed out, it wouldn't be enough by itslef, but as part of a general lawsuit/threat etc...
Heck it could be just a recommendation from the legal/creative team, give him a unique name as a principle. They may want to personalise the setting.

Don't know why they bothered.
But it's not a bad name.
One thing though: It does remind me a lot of BurtBacharach
