It's just a bit of fun I think, although I did notice joe didn't put me down as runner up at Spiky!

Because you weren't. UKC rules say that losing a final doesn't guarantee 2nd place.

Yeah, Joe's got all sorts of variant printed up and kept in a ring binder, then he just produces the one that gives him the highest placing. ;)

Have to admit I don't particularly care whether I finished 4th or 5th in the UKC but I would have thought that it makes sense for a runner up to finish 2nd.

But I have seen the rules Joe put up on the 2011 thread and it says the opposite.

I guess one of the problems with having two types of tournament.

Finals are a bit silly, especially in large tournaments. Often coaches miss out on the final by something like TD difference, and in a normal tournament would still be in the running come round 6. At Spiky it even comes down to a coin toss if there is a draw in the semis! For example, at Spiky you came second with 3/2/1. I don't see why it makes more sense for you (or anyone) to place above someone else who got 'best of the rest' with 5/0/1 (as Jim did this year, and I did in 2008). UKC is just-for-fun, but its design is to recognise consistant performance. If you have 6 games (rather than 4) to 'judge' this, why not use them?

And for all my piss-taking above, I agree with Joe (and the UKC rules).

I would agree with you both, I don't particularly agree with the finals concept, I benefited this year but have lost out in previous years at Spiky.

But given that it is there it seems strange to be placed 6th and not runner up after losing in the final.

But as I said I am not particularly bothered by this, I have to admit I didn't remember the original rules note that clarified this position.

It's unlikely I will get to another tournament this year, so I will see you at Poo Bowl and we can start all over again!

Same thing happens/happened at the GT - iirc Seb finished 5th or something this year?

Poo, WB, Monkey, GT, Carrot, Thrud, Spikey, Pearlies, Alba were this years' nine?

It seems to be one of those things that no-one has any interest in taking seriously and is just a bit of fun and forum fodder, that is until they find themselves doing OK, then suddenly it gets a bit more 'interesting'.

Just another set of rankings, really! ;)
It'd be interesting to see who completed the 'Set' attendance-wise...I am shocked that I only went to 2/9 last year.
