I would pass on the double and still go for block. Your catchers are vital and fragile they need blodge.

Id take Nerves of steel on that double
With that skill he will soon make 16Spp's of course if you roll another double.....

It depends how long your league is going to run for but if it is any length of time I would go for Nerves of Steel. I had the same situation with my on-line human team and wasn't to sure about it initially but after a few games it proved to be invaluable.

It does largely depend on your playstyle, but I would say that the main contenders are block, nerves of steel and guard.
If you're in a bashy league, I would probably go for guard, because it becomes gold dust later on, and guard on an ma8 dodge player is fantastic.

Guard: Mobile Guard is nice to have. It's also useful for blocking guys off of him. The downside is that you don't really want him in zones, so you have to game carefully.
Accurate: receiving back/ball-carrier. Your Thrower chucks to him and he plays keep-away. This lets you cage up around the most convenient point rather than where the ball is, like Dark Elf games against speed teams.
Nerves of Steel: you don't need to be in the clear to take a pass or handoff. Not nearly as good as it sounds, but definitely useful.

If you have other catchers (3 or 4), consider dump-off.

The problem with Dump-Off is that it's always made at a penalty and you're not allowed to TRR it. So there's a 50% chance that you cough up the ball before the block. With Block, your chance of fumbling (falling down) is the same as your chance with Dump-Off, but it also prevents half that many inaccurates and 25% of an AV roll.Daht wrote:If you have other catchers (3 or 4), consider dump-off.
Unfortunately, Dump-Off takes more to work than this guy can muster.

Re: human catcher first skill roll got doubles
See now, the nerves/diving catch guy is great, but is it worth wasting the potential?
I had one, but he got his double on the second skill, after diving catch (had planned to go sprint/sure feet). With a doubles first, you could try something different, knowing that you could get a second skill very quickly. Guard/block is one combo, as is juggernaut/wrestle. Accurate/sure hands would work (although I might prefer pass). Or go more outlandish - juggernaut/strip ball, how about hail mary pass/sure hands for that al star ball retreiver - he picks it up and gets it safe.
Just some thoughts. Try to fill a gap in your team with the doubles - humans dont need many doubles, so really, you can afford to go to town.

NoS. Nerves on a Hoomie catcher is awesome- score a few more times quickly with this guy and get him block at 16.

Re: human catcher first skill roll got doubles
Definately not NoS. Great now he can catch in TZ's, but really what's the point? You're still AG 3 and still need to dodge out while holding the ball. It's 2 times 1 in 9 chance to drop the ball, I don't like those odds! Not a great skill combo IMO.
Guard is the right choice I think. He is fast and can get Block and more importantly Side Step next. And humans can use every guard they can get their hands on.
