Orc Team

Post by los_locos »

I'm starting in a league pretty soon with undead, WE, skaven and Dwarfs
I'm playing orcs. I was thinking of this starting team:

1 troll
4 blitzers
2 Bob
1 thrower
4 gobbo's
2 RR
7 FF

that' 1 mill
Can somebody give me some advise on an orc starting team for a league????

Ork Lineup

Post by Arkan »

There has been a ton of posts about various options for a starting lineup. Check them out. The most discussed topic was the ration between BOBs and Blitzers.
I'd drop the Troll for starters, as I don't think you'll need him in the first few games, and you can always buy him at a later stage. Plus he is quite unreliable. Take two BOBs, three Blitzers, a thrower and fill the rest of your slots with linemen and gobbos. Two should do here.
Then fill up on BOBs, Blitzer and ultimately the Troll or an Ogre. That's just my five cents.
Oh, and definetely three rerolls (at least the way I roll).

Yep I first wanted to go with 3 RR, I don't like the linemen, their so slow, and can't get any progression with skills, I know I could use them as fill ups to close the ranks. But they won't improve a lot and not fast!!!!!!! But on the Troll you could be right I'm thinking to dump him of the team!!!

I started my orcs with 4 BoBs and 4 Blitzers, 1 thrower, 2 linemen.

Keeps you short on RR and FF tho, so maybe not an easy temas to play ...

Orks

Post by Arkan »

Drop one BOB and one Blitzer and invest the rest in two linemen, 1 RR and FF.

Then your shopping list might be this:
apo
Blitzer
BOB
Thrower
Troll (or Troll - Thrower), alternatively an Ogre.

The linemen shoud be able to get a few SPPs (casualities, MVPs, TDs). They'll advance at least one step and can fill your ranks if you want to save your more expensive players ... Once you have four BOBs and Blitzers each, a troll you only have room for two more, one of them probably being a thrower the other one something like a receiver (a second thrower, gobbo or the lineman).

Three BOBs and Blitzers to start with is already pretty powerful on fire power and after a couple of games there is hardly any linemen on the field if you don't wnat them to be.

You should be lokking at 1 thrower, 3 each blitzers and Blockers, 4 linemen, 3 re-rolls and FF7, if your desperate for a gobbo drop a lineman for him and up the FF.

Troll is a waste on a starting roster as you'd have to sacrifice a good starting base to fit it in, and you need a decent FF. definitely no lower than 7, The three Black Orcs should make up for his loss on the LOS

I've never ran an Orc Team, so I figured I would throw this out there and see if its any good, as I figure its about time I give them a try as well.

2 - Lineman = 100k
4 - Blitzers = 320k
3 - Black Orcs = 240k
2 - Gobos = 80k

8 - Fan Factor = 80k
3 - ReRolls = 180k

Should total to 1mil

2 gobbos's in the starting 11 may come back to haunt you, althought they've got dodge, it doesn;t take much to hurt em and without an apoth they are a risky choice, i wouldn't touch em until after i've fleshed out the Blitzers, Black Orcs and apothecary. In fact they'd be the 15th & 16th addition to the team if at all. the last thing you want bwioth a starting team is being unable to field a full team for a few games and getting involved in the vicious circle of being against superior numbers

I always start with two throwers on an Orc team. Sure hands is a must, and you need two of them to cover the whole backfield since they move so slowly. The Kick skill may actually give Orcs more problems than any other teams, because their ball handlers are so slow.

Thrower

Post by Arkan »

A thrower is a must.
I don't think two is necessary at the beginning, while there is not any kickers around. Once they start popping up, it's time for thrower number two ...

Again, with the 1FF :o

Kaboom, in a league you'll never make enough money to replace players that die or are badly injured.

Don't be so sure. My bro did it with dwarfs. I think it would work with orcs. If I went with 1 FF I would start with an APO, though.

What happens is that if your players all stay healthy (which orcs tend to do...DON'T BUY GOBLINS!) you end up fine while your opponent needs the cash.

Especially if his orcs started out vs. the woodies! I would go for it if I knew I was going against woodies first. Take Kaboom's roster (trade a reroll for an apothecary) and play bash ball vs. the elves. They end up crippled for a game or two and you are fine.

It works! Think outside the box! (can't believe I said that!)
