Wood Elves: Who to put on the line?
HI Folks!
Ok, here´s the situation:
I´m playing woodelves, 12 guys on the team, including 2 WDs and a thrower. Some of my lineelves have got some skills already, I have one with block, one with block+dodge and one with sidestep.
Simple question: Should the ones with skills be put on the line or rather those without skills? I mean, having skills on the line may prevent a few cas but then, if I do have a cas, I´ll lose those skill for the game or worse.
So, would you recommend the one or the other?

If your opponent has tackle then don't bother putting dodgers on the line.
I'd put the sidestepper on one flank as that basically seals that flank from being pushed open.
Otherwise a lot depends on game situation and your style. Block is always handy on the line as it drops the chance of your being put down about 20%. However are these your precious one who you can't afford to risk? Against a murderous team (PO Mummies etc) then I'd probably not risk the useful players.

Ok, I see the wisdom in that.ianwilliams wrote:If your opponent has tackle then don't bother putting dodgers on the line.

Yes, actually that was why I gave him that skill. I need another one for my other flank and that should pretty much help on defense.I'd put the sidestepper on one flank as that basically seals that flank from being pushed open.
Surprisingly, the most murderous team was High Elves.Otherwise a lot depends on game situation and your style. Well, I´m trying to get Block for the three guys on the line, as that skill is not affected by tackle. As I´m playing in a 3 Elf, 1 Human, 2 Bashing Teams league, I expect everyone to get Tackle soon.

Off topic:
Strange though, that my posts seem to attract no attention. While everyone seems to be going mad about answering martynq, the only one to replymy threads seems to be Ian.

maybe no one's helping you because no one likes you........
seriously though, there really isnt much to discuss. ian already stated what anyone else would say. if they're more important being backfield, use them there. if you're playing other elves, that will give you an advantage if they're on the line. if you're playing dwarves, they're going to get eaten.

This was always my methodology:
All my line elves get block for their first skill, except for a few with dodge. When I have 5 wood elves with block, I will put 3 of them on the line. Before that, I don't. Obviously, as someone else has stated, anyone with downgrades or other infirmities of any kind gets put on the line as well, whether they have block or not.
The basic idea is, if you have enough guys with block that you aren't crushed if one dies, put em up there. Otherwise put the worst lowlives you've got. If a guy has a good career (aka lasts long enough to get a 2nd skill) living on the line, give him sidestep. That will guarantee only 1 shot at him per kickoff...then dodge. Then they are actually pretty likely to survive more often than not...which is all you can really ask.
Oh, and of course, if you buy the rookie tree, and he actually shows up, put him there too.

Yeah, thanks for all the support, fellas! Now I DO think, I learned something.
Guess, I´ll wait for another 2 or 3 "blockers", before I set them up on the line. (I have one with AG3
- should be a perfect all-time-LOS´er, right?)
Oh, and forget about that remark of not getting answers. Maybe sometimes I´m just not patient enough. Always hungry for wisdom.
Thanks anyways!

One thing I like to do with a developed woodelf team is have 3 players with Blodge/Sidestep on the line. They get 1 chance to hit you before you fall back and seal the line. Really annoys the hell out of people.
For the time being I think just expendable linebeef on the line is the way to go.
