If you can change a skill... (Necro team)
Season is over, my Necromantic team is getting ready for the next (and last) one.
We got an House Rule that, between first and second season, every team can change a skill.
Not sure I will change anything: I made some risky choices with this team, but overall the results were good, and I got the Cup. Still, I can use some opinion...
What skill would you change in this team?
12-13 games to play till retirement. Opponents are going to be mostly finesse and light/medium-bash team (nothing bashier than Norse, probably).
1-Werewolf (81) +1MA; Block; Dodge; Sidestep; Tackle
2-Werewolf (45) M-Blow; Block; Tackle
3-F. Golem (24) Block; Guard
4-F. Golem (5)
5-Wight (25) Pass; StrongArm
6-Wight (19) +1ST; StandFirm
7-Ghoul (1)
8-Ghoul (21) +1ST; Block
9- Zombie (34) Block; Kick; +1ST
10-Zombie (19) Block; Fend
11-Zombie (2)
12-13 Zombie (0)

Don't change a thing. You're doing it right. Maybe, since your WW#2 has 45 SPP, you should change his Tackle to Dodge, then make a point of scoring with him twice so you get your Tackle back. That's the only suggestion I have. I could almost see trading Guard for MB on the FG, for the same reason, but I wouldn't want to go without Guard for what could be several games, and I'd be inclined to take Grab over MB at 31 SPP anyway.

I wouldn't have taken pass, stand firm or strong arm on the wights instead taking dodge on the double and guard or MB, maybe tackle as the league seems to be agile heavy.
Strong arm is particularly bad as you will get very little use out of it and wights have loads of better skills to pick from.
Rest of the skill choices i do like.

What about taking kick off your +ST zombie and put something that goes well with the 4ST?
I've never played a necro team, so not sure what would fit on a 4ST zombie, but there's gotta be something. You'd have to get kick back asap, but it's just an MVZ(most valuable zombie) and CMP away!

That guy is actually really good in a defense like his. As soon as you get a second FG with Block, the Arrowhead/Crossbow midfielder potential for that player is enormous.dsavillian wrote:What about taking kick off your +ST zombie and put something that goes well with the 4ST?

I'm with you there, but given that he has the both of them, he may be best off leaving it as is. Also note that offense isn't Necromantic's strength, and if they have players who have the ability to put the ball in the downfield cage (an excellent cage at that), they can really hammer it home.spubbbba wrote:I wouldn't have taken pass, stand firm or strong arm on the wights instead taking dodge on the double and guard or MB, maybe tackle as the league seems to be agile heavy.

How many TRRs? If it's 4+, you may want to trade Pass for Accurate. That might be better than gaming for Dodge/Tackle instead of Tackle/Dodge on WW2.

I got 4 reroll, even a fifth counting the Cup (but I will fire a rr to avoid giving away too much inducements).mattgslater wrote:I'm with you there, but given that he has the both of them, he may be best off leaving it as is. Re: If you can change a skill... (Necro team)
Then yeah, maybe.
Dodge or Side Step may also be a sane alternative, though it does kind of waste Strong Arm.
The guy you turned into a third FG is fine. Multiple ST4/Block/SF is a total gamebreaker, especially when the Weres go up again....
I'd still probably take Dodge on the Were. Then when he hits 51, take Side Step. With all that Stand Firm, positioning skills will have max value, especially given Frenzy.

Everything looks great to me, I particularly like your Pass/Strong Arm Wight, very original and adds flavour to the team. Perhaps get Dodge on WW2 would be good, but it's not a necessity.

Mostly finesse in your league? Any strip-balling leapers? If so swap Strong Arm for Sure Hands on your passing wight imo.
Otherwise, I think you're good really. Kick seems a bit of a waste on your ST4 zombie, but then what else would be better on a normal skill roll?

I think the ST4 kicker is great. Totally wish I had one. I struggle to find room for my kicker on defense.

When I started this team I decided to try out some “concepts”:
1- Loading on positioning skills, even at the expense of Guard.
2- If Nuffle grant a double as first skill up on a Wight, try to breed a thrower.
The first proposition worked very well (no doubt aided by 3 +ST). The S4-StandFirm Wight performed beyond expectations.
About the thrower-Wight... I tried it, but after a dozen games I think Necro cannot afford the luxury to turn a Wight into dedicated thrower. The reason (in my experience) isn't so much about performance, but about role and position. Necro already need to protect the Were and (at least one of) the Ghouls: the Wight are the only mobile players usually available for frontline-duty. When I use the Wight to handle the ball, a Ghoul become a blocker (meh...).
An accurate-Ghoul make an inferior thrower, but at least fit in the team. My throwing Wight is a square peg in a round hole. Fairly good per se, but in the wrong place.

Finally some love for my poor Thrower!Coachbalrog wrote:Everything looks great to me, I particularly like your Pass/Strong Arm Wight, very original and adds flavour to the team. Perhaps get Dodge on WW2 would be good, but it's not a necessity.

I admitted that this Wight is something of a failed experiment... Still, this neglected guy won me the final, making the long pass that saved me from overtime. I owe him something

That Zombie ate up 6 mvp and got kick, then block and finally +ST. At first I was perplexed about having a sort of blocker-kicker. Like Gaixo wrote, turned out it is an excellent midfielder.

Re: If you can change a skill... (Necro team)
Oh, I agree, as I asked what would be better on a normal skill? Possibly tackle or frenzy, but then he's slow which diminishes the value of those skills. So kick as it's good/necessary to have a kicker, they need to be in the backfield, this guy is too good to be on the bench/LOS when defending so I can see kick as probably the best choice.@Aliboon
