Skilling up with Movement

Post by Der_Doodle »

Hey everyone,
I would like to see some opinions on stat increase with +MV.
I have to admit the "10" roll is for me always the most troublesome skill roll since I am never sure if its a stat increase thats worse to take or not.

I mean +ST or +AG are usually pretty simple to decide if you need them or not.
+AV is mostly a no go except you have a pretty decent developed player you wanna protect.

But +MV? I dont know in my eyes its always hard to utilize that player then correctly. Except you can build a pretty good one turn TD player. I mean for ST and AG a single stat increase in your team with those is a huge impact -AG more then +ST even on teams without any AG4 access.

So I would love some input here wich players would benefit alot from?
And is +MV a stat Increase you should take at the early player development to max utilize it or is it better on later development?

For example I play mostly orcs but (yes and I guess thats mainly cause of my playing abilitys) I could never make good use with a Movement Increase there where a double (or even normal) skill wasnt more helpfull.
Is a Movement Increase for an Orc Blitzer any good as first skill... doesnt the full team benefit more from other skills?

Thanks in advance

I think it depends on the player and the team.

Would I put +MV on a zombie instead of block? Probably not.

I have put +MV on a Trollslayer, as low movement is dwarves biggest weakness.

On an ogre? Meh.

On a gutter Runner? Absolutely.

Slann Catcher? Sure thing.

Orc Lineman? Meh.

etc.

Extra move is more opportunity. What good is block if you can't reach the player you're trying to hit? Why is sprint so good on a BC? How good is one extra move on a treeman. More move means less gfi, less dodging, less chances to roll that dreaded 1. Many times move is better than str or ag in actual game play.

Agreed on most lineman I'd prefer a skill but for positionals it's hard to turn down.

Choosing +MA is always difficult, but it often ends up being more rewarding than you might think.

On Orc Blitzers for example I always take +MA; MA 7 is fantastic on these guys, it allows them to catch up to those pesky elves. Now if you rolled 5+5 and were faced between choosing Dodge or MA 7 then this becomes a tough choice (I would probably choose Dodge first). Basically my motto with +MA is this: with players for whom mobility is a key asset (blitzers, throwers, catchers) then I opt for the extra move every time, for players who do not need the mobility (blockers, big guys, linemen) then I choose a regular skill. I rarely take +AV, although it is rather nice to have at least one player on a team with +AV, you use him to mark the opponent's big guys.
