Magazines and their worth

Post by wikiro »

I'm not either good with the search engine or its not been asked yet, but are the old magazines on tactics good to get. I think I heard around the forum that they are out of date since the LRB updated.

I'm just trying to find what the starting lineups look like and/or find strategies in certain situations. I've seen some renditions of old plays from the GW magazines and thought those looked cool (not sure if they are all that useful since then). I like hard copies of things to read and or show others trying to get into blood bowl.

The team and tactic articles in the magazines are looking very dated. They can be an interesting read anyway and include some basic tactics that are still good, they can equally include advice that isn't so good as the game has moved on both in rules and style/quality of play.

Does white dwarf include blood bowl articles anymore or are they stricktly Warhammer?
I know I can use the forum for most of this information, but I would like visuals to get others more interested. Like instead of say look it up on a way to play why not have a bunch of diagrams for set up plays that you can hand the person. This would easily make it more fun for beginners, kind of like in a video game when you choose a play before you start a drive.

I'm limited on people that will play with me because they don't know what to do because they are all beginners. :/

No. Theres no mention of blood bowl in white dwarf anymore. Its just a lousy cataloge of new things and battle reports featuring those new thing.

Well that sounds lame. I never liked the battle system in the game. Though, 40K has a cool story line and some cool figure sets its just....to much like a trading card game only ridiculously expensive.

So if I spend money on the old magazines and or old white dwarf magazines I shouldn't be too disappointed?

Well if your a collector its a nice miniatures referance, but the tactics and guides hold no ground with the current rule book. There is a guy on here called 'sinister dexter' he makes a australian blood bowl magazine, if you pm him he can add you to recipiants, its a pdf sent by email but it is worth the read.

That link you posted in the last thread is not really good imo. None of the defensive setups take possible frenzy into account and the offensive plans are stupid. I would allways try to block all three guys on the LOS unless I was totally unable to make 2D blocks and I would never dodge into and out of tackle zones (agility team offense, left field) just to get a catcher through. The only exception might be AG5 and leap.
