St3 Ag4 Block Skink - What's next ?

Post by Tsicafrou »

Hi,

I've just discovered this forum recently and I have to say, this is a true goldmine for an inexperienced blood bowl coach ;-) !

So, I'm wondering currently what to take for my star skink on my lizardmen team.

The team is more or less as follows :

1 Krox - Guard, -1AV
1 Saurus - Block, Mighty Blow, Tackle
1 Saurus - Block, +1St
1 Saurus - Block, Break Tackle
1 Saurus - Block, Tackle
1 Saurus - Block
1 Saurus - Block
1 Skink - +1St, +1Ag, Block, ?
1 Skink - +1Ma, Sprint
1 Skink - Diving Tackle
1 Skink
1 Skink

So obviously, this skink has been a super star for my last matches, getting nearly all tds and sacking ball carriers inside cages.
He's rolled a simple right now and I don't really know what to take for his next skill.
I was thinking sure feet or jump up, with a preference for sure feet as he doesn't get knocked down that often (I protect him and he's often inside a saurus cage).

I know side step is generally viewed as one of the best skill for a skink but it doesn't seem to fit really well on this one..

What do you think ?

For information, I'm planning to get some guards next on the two lvl 2 saurus (i was planning to get guard for my last lvl up but he got +St instead).

I would go sidestep. It's just too good to pass up.

If you don't want SS then diving tackle is pretty good. I'd take sidestep then diving tackle. Sure feet is interesting but I'm not sure how much you really need it. Useful but other skill might be a higher priority.

Sidestep.

He is an amazing cagebreaker, and sidestep means that when you *do* get hit, you can choose to go where you want. It also means that in emergencies, you can form a sideline halfcage without being surfed by leaping elves or fluky dodges.

He shouldn't be a) standing next to people, b) getting hit, or c) having to recieve a pass(cos you shouldn't be passing).

There's a case for Sure Feet, but it depends how much you find yourself going for it. The advantage of sidestep is you can make a 2+ dodge into a cage, blitz the ball carrier inside on 1d if they haven't got guard, and if they block you in their turn you can sidestep away from any killers.

I wasn't convinced about side step because, even when he dodges inside a cage and blocks the ball carrier with 1d, he usually dodges out the same turn on 2+ also (if dodge hasn't been used at this point).

So even when he's used as a ball hunter (which he often is), he's usually not near a killer next turn.

The argument about protecting against crowd surf is interesting though.

About sure feet, I'm considering it because 1) I've not identified something really a lot more useful, and 2) I frequently go for it when I've two turns to score, which happens a fair share of the time

I would think that lizards even with regular skinks would be near impossible to stop from 2 turn scoring. One skinks to pick up and hand off.. the other to get into position in the downfield saurus cage.

Still sure feet isn't bad.

Whats next for him? Well if he was in my league, the graveyard :smoking: haha :P
But seriously, id go sidestep. You dont really want him getting knocked down i imagine so jump up would be moot. But with sidestep, as the above statements have said, lets you pick where he goes, which would be very useful for you!

One more vote for Sidestep. You never know when you can't protect a guy, and he's probably around the ball a lot.

On a double you have to be thinking of sure hands.

Agree with Sidestep on a normal.

+ST and +AG on a skink is just plain wrong.

No he's not ^^. His next match has not yet been played, but he's been in my team for a good 3 or 4 matches with this statline.

Let's hope he stays with us a few more matches...

I would definitely take Sidestep, that way he can wriggle his way to safety, or into a cage! Sidestepping skinks are a pain in the arse, for sure.

It's great with AG4/Stunty, too. Drives people crazy. Ask any Underworld coach with a Two Heads/SS Goblin!

ST3, AG4, Block????

The universe is so unfair sometimes. In 14 games of my current league, I've had ONE skink get a stat increase (+1AG!!) and he played in three games. First one he went MNG, then first turn of his return game he failed his first dodge (1-reroll-1), promptly died, and then was promptly killed again by the Apothecary.

Jealousy aside, take SIDESTEP. Maybe Diving Tackle instead, but only depending on your league's make-up. Even then, Diving Tackle isn't really that great on a skink unless he's already got SideStep anyways.
