I started a CD team with the mino and no bulls. It was okay for a few turns, then the mino blitzed, failing a GFI and rerolling it only to double skull the block, break armour, die, and apoth fail.
Next time, it's bulls all the way.

That is a 1 in 1,000 chance, according to my calculations. It can happen to any player at (almost) any time. I'm not sure it's an argument in itself for not taking the Minotard. If starting with him, I would suggest also starting with a Bull:B SIDE wrote:I started a CD team with the mino and no bulls. Mino, Bull, 5xCD, 4xHG, 3RR
All the best.

I can think of much better arguments for never starting one!

Stats be damned, minotaurs on Chaos Dwarf teams are inexplicably fragile and usually don't pull their weight.

If you are only facing Woodies I'd be tempted to take 6 CDs to start and buy the 2nd bull later. The extra block/tackle should provide more opportunities for slaughter and he's unlikely to be able to take a bull out.

I am open-minded about the Minotard. I used to prefer playing without one, but I am now playing with one and rather enjoying it. He is not reliable as an active player, of course, but he is always a threat. A ST5 Frenzied player is useful for keeping the opponent's defence honest, especially at the start.Wanchor wrote:Stats be damned, minotaurs on Chaos Dwarf teams are inexplicably fragile and usually don't pull their weight.
For his coach, a Minotard is "character building".

Patience, tolerance and humility being the virtues in question, I suppose.

It's not an argument, really. More like an anecdote.Smeborg wrote:That is a 1 in 1,000 chance, according to my calculations. It can happen to any player at (almost) any time. I'm not sure it's an argument in itself for not taking the Minotard.

Minos are definitely unreliable. I'm not a fan of big guys in general, really. The main reason I started with him was that I bought the cool Greebo/RollJordan Mino and I wanted to field the model.
On the whole, I don't think I'm very good with CD's. I really think I've still got a long way to go as a BB coach, despite an overall good record. Even with bashy teams, I get outbashed a lot because of positioning.

Thanks B SIDE, I took your original post in a light-hearted spirit. I share your concern with lone Big Guys in general, and my normal preference is to play without them. However, some of them are obviously worthwhile, some are marginal. The only way to find out is to play both with and without them for decent periods. I start Minotard development (a nice contradiction in terms) with J-Naut and S-Firm. J-Naut increases the reliability of his blitzes, S-Firm makes him more likely to stay in contact, so that he can block without having to consume the blitz action. I try to avoid any GFIs with him unless perhaps his is the last or penultimate action and important. Guard is good on him, so is B-Tackle (creates a threat that the opponent has to deal with).B SIDE wrote:It's not an argument, really. More like an anecdote.![]()

The CDs will punch above their weight when played and developed accurately. There are wide skill choices for the CD player-types, especially the Hobgobs and the Bulls. The challenge is to find skill paths that work not just for each player-type, but for the team as a whole. Keep going - you will be rewarded, and CDs are a good team for improving your BB. They come with loads of skills (especially Block/Tackle), their natural defense is quite good, and their MA is mini-maxed to a degree (two MA6+3 players with ST4), making them different to other bash teams (more resourceful). B-Tackle is an important early skill on the Bulls to realize their movement potential.
All the best.

I thought I had commented on this thread but obviously not.
Chaos Pact are perfect for beating Wood Elves already, you have a minotaur, just use him. You can get 5 or 6 dice blocks/blitzes every turn with him on a 2+ just make sure you get the assists in place and watch how much damage he can cause on his own. Then once you get a numerical advantage which shouldnt take long start fouling everything. Finally take out the wardancers and the game is won.

Yes I would agree with that. Wardancers are weaker when they are the only thing on the pitch so why not just waste the most vulnerable.garion wrote:Finally take out the wardancers and the game is won.
