Defensive Setup - Experienced Orcs

Post by Der_Doodle »

Hi just wanted to know what kind of defensive setups you would use with a similar skilled Orc Team.

Code: Select all

01 - Blackorc - 4 4 2 9 - Guard
02 - Blackorc - 4 4 2 9 - Block
03 - Blackorc - 4 4 1 9 - Block
04 - Blackorc - 4 4 2 9 - /
05 - Blitzer - 7 3 3 9 - Sidestep, +MA
06 - Blitzer - 6 3 3 9 - Guard, Standfirm, Mighty Blow
07 - Blitzer - 6 4 3 9 - Guard, Mighty Blow, +ST, Sidestep
08 - Blitzer - 5 3 4 9 - Frenzy, Tackle, +AG, -MA
09 - Troll - 4 5 1 9 - Block, Guard
10 - Thrower - 5 3 3 8 - Block, Kick-Off-Return, Accurate
11 - Goblin - 6 2 3 7 - Diving Tackle
12 - Thrower - 5 3 3 8 - Block
13 - Lineorc - 5 3 3 9 -
14 - Lineorc - 5 3 3 9 -
I am thinking about the following basic defensive setup -inverse zigg- since I have twice Sidestep.

Code: Select all

A| -- -- -- -- | -- -- 02 09 03 -- -- | -- -- -- -- |
B| -- -- -- -- | -- -- -- -- -- -- -- | -- -- -- -- |
C| -- 05 -- -- | 06 -- -- -- -- -- 04 | -- -- 07 -- |
D| -- -- 11 -- | -- 01 -- -- -- 08 -- | -- 12 -- -- |
The Goblin only vs Agi teams else I would most likely use a Lino instead.

Anyways I am open to suggestions for improving my defensive setup. Aswell as should I move my row C and D up each 1 square (cutting out row B) I still feel kinda open this way I have to admit.... Maybe just against Agi Teams?

Oh and I wouldnt mind getting some different ideas on skill ups :) So feel free to say what skills you think I should pick next :)

Greetings
Doodle

Looks good against AG teams; I like your instinct about moving stuff up. You might want an alternate with a 5-man "Orklahoma" front, using 1 and 6 sandwiched between the Troll and the Block BOBs.

Against heavies, move most of your stuff to the inside; you want to lure the opponent out wide.

Against Claw-heavy teams, I'd put 4, 13 and 14 on the line, just to minimize investment.

What is Nuffle's lawn? Inches, squares, and tackle zones: Reddened blades of grass.
What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

So if i get it rigth with Orklahoma you mean this basicly? against AG teams right?

Code: Select all

A| -- -- -- -- | -- 02 06 09 01 03 -- | -- -- -- -- |
B| -- 05 -- -- | 08 -- -- -- -- -- 04 | -- -- 07 -- |
C| -- -- 11 -- | -- -- -- -- -- -- -- | -- 12 -- -- |
D| -- -- -- -- | -- -- -- -- -- -- -- | -- -- -- -- |
And this would be the "closer" version... but I guess thats only against AG too cause of the Quick Snap risk with a bash heavy team right?

Code: Select all

A| -- -- -- -- | -- -- 02 09 03 -- -- | -- -- -- -- |
B| -- 05 -- -- | 06 -- -- -- -- -- 04 | -- -- 07 -- |
C| -- -- 11 -- | -- 01 -- -- -- 08 -- | -- 12 -- -- |
D| -- -- -- -- | -- -- -- -- -- -- -- | -- -- -- -- |
Would this be the more closer to the Center version you mean vs Bash?

Code: Select all

A| -- -- -- -- | -- -- 02 09 03 -- -- | -- -- -- -- |
B| -- -- -- -- | -- -- -- -- -- -- -- | -- -- -- -- |
C| -- -- 05 -- | -- 06 -- -- -- 04 -- | -- 07 -- -- |
D| -- -- -- 11 | -- -- 01 -- 08 -- -- | 12 -- -- -- |

Vs bash, covering the wide zone (at all) is less important than deterring the inside route. Don't worry about wide coverage; just worry about not getting valuable guys hit.

You've got the idea behind the Orklahoma line, but on T9 defense vs. a down-men oppo (what Orklahoma is designed for), you don't need to go sideline to sideline, because a down-men opponent can't run a strong pattern and can't take advantage of your wide zone weakness. T1, or on a shorter clock, stick to the inverted Zig.
