Dark Elves development in bashy league

Post by klauser »

My Dark Elves are leading their division in a private league with three games to go (Dwarves TV 1970, Norse TV 2050, Nurgle TV 1500). After a win against Undead, 5 (!) players levelled and I'm stumped what to get. The next level-ups will take a good while and I don't want to "forget" a crucial skill or something.

Here's the roster, all level-ups are normal rolls:

Blitzer - Dodge, Side Step, ?
Blitzer - Dodge, SS
Blitzer - Dodge, Guard
Blitzer - Guard

WE - Block, ?
WE - Wrestle, Tackle, ?

Runner - Wrestle, ?

Line - Wrestle
Line - Kick, -AV
Line - ?
Line

3 RR
Apo
300k stashed
TV 1560 (before level-ups)

Even though the divison is bash-heavy, my next one might not be, so I want to build it into an all-round team. I'd also appreciate advice on purchases (e.g. another RR, another Line Elf?).

Thanks for your input!

Maybe some leap stripball? Can't have too much gaurd. Fend is pretty annoying on ag teams. Diving tackle on something dodge side sidestep.

Against those teams I'd take Sidestep on both witches, diving tackle on the blitzer, NoS or Pass on the runner and wrestle or block on the line elf.

With 300k in your treasury, why not fire the -AV line-elf?
You can give kick to your newly leveled line-o, and hire a new one altogether.

No reason to short yourself kick or an eight AV noggin with all that cash!

That's a good idea.

I'd be thinking of 4 rerolls and 12-13 player squad too.

SS is golden on dark elves, especially on witches. Diving tackle is perfect for the blitzer, dodge or pass for the runner. Regarding the lineman, I would consider giving him kick and fire your -AV as already suggested. Then I would go for 13 men, but 3 rerolls are fine though, but again that depends on your playstyle.

Based on the above recommendations, I will do as follows:
- Blitzer gets Diving Tackle
- both Witches get Side Step (Block WE will get Tackle as 3rd skill)
- Runner gets Pass (Dodge at 31)
- Lineelf gets Wrestle (or Dodge)

As for the Lineelf, I was gonna go Kick and fire my -AV Kicker, but I think I came up with a better solution. I have a Wrestle Lineelf at 14spp, who will get Kick when (and if) he levels. Then I can fire my old Kicker, and have my new Kicker with a survival skill already. That way I'm free to give the freshly levelled Lino Wrestle or Dodge.

As for purchases, I can either buy 2 Lineelfs (up to 13) or a Lineelf and a 4th Reroll and still get to induce a Wizard for my next match. I tend towards the extra Lineelf, since I'm playing bash-happy Dorfs and my play style is rather conservative anyway.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in!

I'd get one Lineelf, the RR, and take the Wizard in your next match.

Sidestep on both witches for sure, makes you much harder to surf and can help set up counter surfs with JU. I’d take Tackle, Diving Tackle, or maybe strip ball on the Blitzer and wrestle on the lino.

For the Runner I’d take dodge, actually I’d fire and replace him as wrestle is a terrible choice for the ball carrier compared to block.

In hind sight I would have preferred MB on those blitzers and the Witch elf with block.

It's one of those calls.

Line elves need to be worked a bit more and get a host of them with Wrestle.

Why not give the runner, surehands or catch? A bit more ball movement.

No assassins? My mate has 2 of the annoying things, he uses them cautiously but one has multistab and now and then it come in and stabs stuff (LOS all get stabbed, if no one goes down, hit them with Line).

I know that Bash teams tend to have more armour and therefore not that effective.

If you are so TV tastic against the monsters in front of you. Got to get a hot pot and apoths.

If there is some dodge dudes:

Blitzer with Tackle or Fend or dauntless
Witchelves with Tackle or Fend or dauntless
Runner with Catch, it allows the ball to be tossed to him with some certainty or sure feet just to out pace the stunties.
Line - Wrestle, IMO elves can't have too much of it.

Stabbing the LOS FTW! Can't wait to induce Horkon against my Norse opponent. :orc:

A little update from the Hungarian Hydras. My druchii won their matches against the Dwarves and the Norse; they are now locked for 1st place before their last match against a Nurgle crew.

Here's the updated roster:

Blitzer - Dodge, Side Step, DT
Blitzer - Dodge, SS, ? (MNG)
Blitzer - Dodge, Guard
Blitzer - Guard

WE - Block, Side Step
WE - Wrestle, Tackle, Side Step

Runner - Wrestle, Pass

Line - Wrestle, ?
Line - Kick, -AV
Line - Wrestle, - AV (MNG)
Line
Line

4 RR
Apo
150k stashed
TV ~1800 (before level-ups, including MNG)

So, a level-up on a Blodge SS Blitzer - I'm thinking Tackle or a 2nd instance of DT. Both seems nice, in each case the usefulness will depend on my next division setup. EDIT: Actually, Dauntless might be nice, too. Thoughts?

The Wrestle Lineelf is a bit trickier. I feel that I have too much AV 7 with the -AV injuries on my other Wrestle Lineelf and my Kicker Lineelf. One option would be to take Kick for the level-up and sack the AV 7 Kicker. The other option is to give him Dodge (Wrodge makes for a nice safety/sweeper) and keep the injured Kicker.
Also, what to do about the AV7 Wrestle Lineelf? Keep or and put on the LOS; keep and line up in the backfield; or sack outright?

Dauntless Blitzer: sic him on the Ulfs and Troll.
Side Step Lino: Noseguard, baby! That says Dodge or SS. Dwarfs half the equation. That says not Dodge. Modus Tollens, and voila!

No more Norse and Dorfs this season. Final match is against Nurge. After that, promotion to an unknown division awaits.

A Dauntless Blitzer might be nice, regardless. It also means that I could easily go with Dodge on the Wrestle Lineelf, unless I want to make him my new Kicker.

Oh, gotcha. Then it doesn't matter for the Blitzer, and either Dodge, SS, or Strip for the Lino, depending on whether or not he has SH.
