Fanatic Skill Choice

Post by garion »

Since the Fanatic can only have these skills on a single roll -
Mighty Blow, Guard, Grab, PO (although it is completely pointless), and Thick Skull (also completely pointless), Stand firm, Strong Arm completely pointless

Edit: So I have changed the list, apparently they can have all these skills but 3 are completely pointless and will do no good at all. So why allow them?

Nah, you pick Piling On and use it whenever possible ;)

Although in what world are your Fanatics surviving to their fourth skill-up?

They cant use Pilling On though can they ?

Edit: okay so it appears they can use PO, but why would they? There is no need at all it doesn't make sense that this is even an option for them.

And even if they can use PO what happens after they have five skills?

Short of doubles, that's pretty much it. Piling On and Thick Skull are naturally silly choices, but has anyone managed to get a fanatic up to a fifth skill pick?

What about strong arm and juggernaut? Neither is usable, but they can be taken as skill picks.

Juggernaut can be used... providing the player can declare a blitz. Not sure if the fanatic can do that though.

actually piling on will be quite useful
I will score but did not hurt you enough. I place my player prone for another die roll (taking the ball in the face) then I score (he is off anyway)

So by 'quite useful,' you mean 'marginally useful, maybe, in a stalling situation.'

From Ball & Chain

If the player is even knocked down or placed prone roll immediately for injury (no armour roll is requires) Stunned results for ball & chain are always treated as KO'ed (paraphrased from pg63)

Also piling on can only be used as part of That players block or Blitz action, Fanatics only make move actions....

So i think thats would be a turn over as the Fanatic leaves the field...

If my fanatic gets to 3 skills and no double / stat increase (St or Mv) then he will retire (with full honours) and be replaced.

The Block/Blitz Action you are right
placing prone is not a turn over (even if he's killed, unless he was holding the ball)
but since he only does a Move action he cannot use the skill, like grab, juggernaught or multiple block.
unusable skills: Break Tackle, Strong Arm, Thick Skull

That does leave: Mighty Blow, Stand Firm, and Grab >> retirement

he can use grab.

But Double skulls you say he can have strong arm and Jugganaught, why allow him to pick these skills if he cant use them, he also cant really use PO or Thick Skull. It seems a bit daft to me. But I guess he will never reach this level anyway. So only daft in theory :D

If you can only use PO in Block/Blitz actions does that means you can't use it against an opponent who blocked you and skulled?

Yes, and it is also very explicitly written in the rulebook. Emphasis mine:
Piling On (Strength)
The player may use this skill after he has made a block as part of one of
his Block or Blitz Actions,
