After failing to argue an IP call, can I then use a reroll?
Scenario:
I have at least one reroll left, and haven't used one this turn. My opponent calls me for Illegal Procedure. I argue the call and fail (don't roll a six)...can I THEN choose to use a reroll, or does my turn just end?

Erm,...Arguing the call is for when a player is sent-off for fouling, not for IP. If you're called for IP then you must use a re-roll straight away, or take the turnover.
Two entirely different things.

Edit: Whoops cocked up the quotingIn order to represent this, every time the referee sends off one or more of your players, or issues an illegal procedure call against you, or bans the use of a secret weapon, you may argue the call with him.

The short answer is "no", but it is a qualified "no" because there are odd ways of interpreting the question which could justify the answer "yes".

LRB 2.0 P.8 "A coach who is called for illegal procedure must either use up a re-roll or suffer a turnover."
I thought they sorted out these inconsistencies

Meant to include this in the above post
As an house rule I would like to see this escalated to an auto-turnover if the coach is ejected from the game.
There should be some risk in arguing with the ref.

I would say that you argue the call before using the re-roll as you only have to give up a re-roll once he has made the call, i.e. the call stands. On a roll of 2-5 he ignores you and his call stands.

it should never come up anyway...
you can use a reroll for a GUARANTEED turn, or try the argue at 1in6. If the turn was important enough that you should use a reroll for it, shouldn't you do it when it's GUARANTEED to work instead of 1in6? Seems like a really dumb idea to use it to reroll the arguance.
However, i believe darkson is wrong, you can argue pretty much any call a referee ever makes.

oh, then no i don't think you can do that. you can only rr your last action. so you could try to rr the argue, but not just use it for the ip directly.Artificial Penguin wrote:No no, wesleyti, the RR is for the IP, not to reroll the attempt to argue the call

OK, I concede this one. Sensible place to add this, on P.18. Why not but this at the front with the rest

Personally, knowng this rule
I'd rule it if you argued the call and was sent off then you can't use a re-roll.
In fact, I agree with Westley, if you argue the call you can only re-roll th argue, not just burn it.

In fact, you can't re-roll a argue the call, as RR are only for on-pitch events (unless you have a player-coach - eg Vampire Lords)
So, finally
, you can burn the re-roll or argue the call, not both. I think!
So, finally

bah we never liked that rule...if it's your turn you can rr it in our league.Grumbledook wrote:yer you can only rr on pitch stuff, arguing the call is an off the pitch event so it can't be done

I think my original post is being misunderstood:
- I don't want to reroll the ARGUING of the call.
- I want to know if I can try to argue and then, if that fails, choose to instead LOSE my reroll for the IP instead of just ending my turn.
Thanks

You can only argue the call if you have failed to use a reroll to prevent the turnover. So by the time you reach the argue the call stage it is then too late to go back and use a reroll. This would be equivalent to throwing an inaccurate pass, then after seeing the scatter roll deciding to reroll he pass roll.Artificial Penguin wrote:I think my original post is being misunderstood:

Argue the call/burn reroll
This is a tricky one
I play it like this:
Your coach can argue the call when the IP is called and if that fails then you can choose to burn your RR for that turn to negate the IP.
The way I rationalise it is that the Coach tries arguing with the Ref, he fails so the team gets it's lawyers (they're always at the game) in on the argument and they manage to convince the ref. The team RR is then burned as the coach is embroiled in the big debate with NAF officials and his lawyers for this down. The players onfield might be a bit off their game (no RR) as a distractingly large fight ensues on the sidelines involving their coach and NAF 'suits'.
I know it might sound a bit far fetched but hey.. this is a fantasy game of football not realistic.
I do understand the other arguments put forward on this one and they're equally as valid - I reckon you just need to pick a ruling you're happy with and play it that way.
(Although I'd be interested in knowing the official ruling on this one as I'm going to the BB tournament and the situation might come up).
