Chaos Cup Rewards on Dwarf Team

Post by Greedy_Snitch »

So, my dwarf team won the Chaos Cup final in our local league tonight, a thrilling game against an Amazon team that went into overtime. Finally, the dwarfs managed to steal the ball and score. 1-0
I rolled 2 on a D3, and thus received 2 Chaos Rewards from the Chaos Gods. This is my lineup after the game:

Deathroller (LRB5 legacy, ie no Loner), Guard, 14 SPP, 180k
Dwarf Runner, Block Tackle, 21 SPP, 120k
Blitzer, Sure Hands Stand Firm, 24SPP, 120k
Blitzer, Guard, Chaos Reward, 10 SPP, 100k
TS,Mighty Blow (New Normal Skill), 18 SPP, 130k
TS, Mighty Blow, 10 SPP, 110k
Blocker, 0 SPP, 70k
Blocker, 0 SPP, 70k
Blocker, Guard, 10 SPP, 90k
Blocker, -MA Guard Stand Firm, 16 SPP, 110k
Blocker, 4 SPP, 70k
Blocker, 4 SPP, 70k
Blocker, Chaos Reward, 0 SPP, 70k
Blocker, 0 SPP, 70k
4 Rerolls
FF 7
AC 1
CL 1
Apo Yes

TV 1720

I was so hoping to get a reward on the Deathroller (Tentacles comes to mind 8) )but alas... What are your thought on Chaos Rewards on the Blocker and Blitzer? As per LRB5, I am able to choose from all mutations, Regen, Hypnotic Gaze and Stab. Just to clarify, I play in a CRP league but as you probably know, the Cup rules were removed from CRP, so you have to look in LRB 5 for the specifics of the major Cups.

Off the top of my head: Claw on the Blocker (to make him into a superior Dwarf of the Chaos variety) and Hypno-Gaze on the Blitzer (gives you a 50/50 "free" cage-breaking option, otherwise you use his Guard to blitz the cage corner instead). Both skills mess nicely with the opposing coach's head.

Have fun, whatever you pick.

Claw and Tentacles on the Deathroller cause he's gonna skill up after 1 casualty.

Claw on the Blocker. Lots of choices on the Blitzer, but I think Tents or Claw is the best, situationally. Get SF or MB to follow, respectively.

What is Nuffle's tree? Risk its trunk, space the branches. Touchdowns are its fruit.

On the blocker its pretty much claw or prehensile tail which combines nicely with tackle to make him a great marker, even if he is pretty slow. I'd probably go claw as it will significantly help him getting more star player points.

The answer on the blitzer really comes down to what you originally envisioned his role to be and pick the appropriate skill. I would opt for Pre Tail over tentacles though, as st3 just isn't going to cause that many issues but the tail will cause its fair share of turnovers. Claw helps him hurt, 2 heads improves his dodging or extra arms helps his ball handling. Regeneration would help him last a lot longer though (but don't assume it will bail you out and hope you can save the apoth for later) I'm just not sure he is valuable enough in his present state to go for for that over one of the other skills that actually makes him play better now.

I´d choose claw on the TS with MB and the new skill. With Dauntless and Frenzy in combination with claw and mighty blow he´ll hurt a lot of chaos warriors, flesh golems and so on.

You don't choose the player, hence why the OP said the Blocker and Blitzer.

Pre-tail on the Blocker.
Depending on what you do/want to do with your Blitzer:
a) Hit things - Claw
b) be a mobile assist - Two-heads
c) handle the ball - extra Arms
d) just be generally annoying - Hypno Gaze

Guess claw is best for both guys, tents suck with str 3, hypno gaze is not really good with only ag 3, but still a fun pick. Prehensile tail for the blocker is a safe bet. Guess it depends on the league and where you have most problems. If you struggle against high av bash teams, go for two claw, if the agile teams run rings around you, then grow a tail on the blocker..

I originally envisioned a team with just 2 ballhandlers: the 2 blitzers. My plan was to phase out the 2 runners as soon as my blitzers got Sure Hands. Reality changed this, since early on I suffered from having no guard player, and when my second blitzer got its skillup I just had to take guard. Because of that my current runner had to stay and I planned to make him a safety (hence block + tackle)

Some time ago my 2 surehand guys got knocked out in the same drive, and I had just 1 Ag 3 player (the guard blitzer) on the field. That sucked. So, I think I have to take Sure Hands on him sooner or later anyway.

Extra Arms would be nice, because then I could make my runner into a passer, and do a passing game with the dwarfs(!)

But, I will go for claw on both blocker and blitzer. With 2 claws, my dwarfs will be the über bashers extraordinaire. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity. And I will be able to topple the Chaos Dwarfs in my league...

Thanks for your input.

Can't fault you for it. Get either Piling On or Dauntless on the Blocker if he makes it to 16 SPP (obviously, Mighty Blow first). He's a lumberjack and he's okay! Follow with the other one or Stand Firm should he make it to 31 (not bad odds), and that guy's great against the teams that give Dwarfs the most trouble. He'll die eventually, but until then, those Trolls and TGs will quake in their boots.

The Blitzer I'd give MB next, and SF after that. I would not give him Piling On at any point, and putting Frenzy or Tackle on a Dwarf is like bringing sand to the beach. It's a bummer this didn't land on the DR or a Runner or Slayer, as all those guys would get better use out of the mutation.

I agree on that. However, I am happy to get 2 rewards instead of just 1 (and I am happy to win as well of course). Last year the gods granted the winning human team 3: Claw on Ogre, Horns on Blitzer, Extra Arms on Catcher, and 2 years ago my high elfs got only 1, Hypno on a linelf.

Winning the Chaos Cup can make for good times. I have a Dark Elf team that won Thunderbowl's version (the Powerbowl - standard Chaos Cup rewards). I picked up Claw on a S4 Line Elf that died literally 3 turns into his next game, and Hypno-Gaze on a Blitzer that is still alive and unhurt 30some games later. He's now Block/Dodge/Sidestep/Guard/Fend/+AG/Hypno-Gaze, and he haunts the dreams of everyone he plays against. Image

For your players, I'd likely go with Claw on both the Blitzer and the Longbeard. It's hard to go wrong with that.
