I'm about to get a skill on one or both of my Mummies, and am trying desperately to decide between Block and Piling On. I had planned on Block, but after reading here about how disgusting Piling On can be, I'm no longer sure...
I'd appreciate any input folks might have, especially any probability analysis about how often I'll get a casualty with only one skill vs. only the other.
Thanks in advance

I'd always take Block 1st, especially if there's gonna be any DP in your league.

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

you have to think about more than that...first of all you're putting youself on the ground with piling on which means 2 major things:
1. possible retaliation
2. can't hit next turn unless you blitz AND gfi even if they're right next to you.
also important to remember is that sometimes other people hit you. wouldn't it be nice to have block in those cases so you're less likely to fall down?
don't go strictly by the numbers on this one...there are too many intangibles.

Very true. I considered those other factors but left them out for simplicity's sake. Really, I guess I'd rather just hear people's take on the choice then, since the numbers probably won't mean anything.

well in case it wasn't clear enough...i'd suggest block first.

Bah, take PO first and block with be a few games away. So what if you get fouled, you have high AV and Regen anyway. And whikle they are fouling, you can beat the crap out of someone else with your other Mummy
You can pile on with both your mummies, but then your team is even slower down the pitch and you lose your two best players for screening off your ball carrier.
Take Piling On on both Mummies as a first skill - however, you must have 3 rerolls for this since you will need them for you Mummy blocks. Only one of your Mummies can be fouled each time. Also if you go this route make sure you get at least 1 Dirty Player - you need to be able to retaliate if there is a fouling war.
Piling On at ST 5 and Mighty Blow is a serious combination. Also when blocking with the Mummies try to get 3 dice blocks if possible. Even if you need a straight POW you have a decent shot at getting it.

Marcus is right, scoring TDs wins games - but if your opponent has only got 3 players on the pitch its pretty difficult for them to stop you scoring.
After seeing my TBB orc team demolished by a pair of PO mummies I'd take PO first. An Orc team finished the game with 3 players on the pitch, and I don't think he was particularly lucky. PO & MB is a lethal combination, and you'll get Block in another ~5 games.
Well after three games my 2 mummies have all of *one* casualty been them, and no other SPPs. I'm thinking I'll shoot for block first, just because I've been able to use them in my cage quite effectively. Maybe once my Wights are built up more I can focus on just using the mummies to roam around and kill, but right now it's important to me that they stay up.

Pile on, as long as teams are forced to play you. Otherwise, Block, because I, along with any other sensible coach, stays the hell away from STR 5 guys with Pile On and Mighty Blow. Two of them is particularly gross.
