Re: Chaos dwarf defensive setups and other silly questions
I'm more fond of Wrestle on the Hobgoblins than block.
I like kick a real lot, maybe CD aren't the fastest but they have two exceptional players who can to the offense under serious pressure... So kick can be handy to create a gap and prevent the ball to end op too fast in a cage.
So would choose kick but wrestle is also prefect vs those Norse, Orcs and Necro.

Re: Chaos dwarf defensive setups and other silly questions
I have tried Wrestle on Hobgobs, but found it unsatisfactory (I am a fan of Wrestle generally). I prefer Block, plus early Fend. You have only 2 or 3 Hobgobs at the beginning of a drive, and one will often be put in the dugout early on, leaving 1 or 2 on the pitch. They are the only AG3 players on the team. I find they need to remain standing as much as possible, so as to be in a position to receive the ball, or at least to move their full MA. Since the Bulls take most of the Blitzes, Wrestle is not fully used on a Hobgob.
Hope that helps.

I am a fan of Kick. Choosing where the ball goes when you have players that could pressure it is great.

Re: Chaos dwarf defensive setups and other silly questions
After winning against the orcs and slann, the team looks like this. Lost the sure hands hob, due to a -2d leap blitz by a slann linefrog without block/wrestle resulting in a kill
so from now on I will try to carry the ball with at least block...
Bull block, break tackle, ST (frenzy?) 45
Bull break tackle, block, guard (sf/mb) 34
Dwarf guard (mb) 10
Dwarf (mb) 0
Dwarf guard, mighty blow (grab/sf) 16
Dwarf guard, mighty blow (grab/sf) 24
Dwarf guard (mb) 10
Dwarf mighty blow, claw (po) 27
Hobbo 1
Hobbo 0
Hobbo dodge, block (sure hands) 31
Hobbo block (sure hands) 10
Hobbo dirty player 6
3 rerolls
APO
TV 1650
Went for block on the hobbo and it worked out pretty well, got a couple of knockdowns due to that. The blodge hobbo got a skill-up, but haven't rolled the dice for it, but he will get sure hands unless its a stat-up. I will probably get a backup sure hands player and then kick to try it out.

@dines: Consider Prehensile Tail on 1 or 2 dwarfs! Claw is awesome no doubt, but only on AV9 guys. A dwarf with Block, Tackle, Stand Firm and Prehensile Tail is the worst case for every Amazon, Elf etc. coach..such a fun

Pre Tail requires a double roll. In that case you could simply go with Diving Tackle. Much more effective against those pesky Elves. I've seen too many of them dodge away from my Rat Ogre/Krox.pauli42 wrote:@dines: Consider Prehensile Tail on 1 or 2 dwarfs! Claw is awesome no doubt, but only on AV9 guys. However, I wonder how much Claw is enough. Can there ever be enough Claw? I think I'd want 3 CDs with MB/Claw, one or two of them with PO.

Re: Chaos dwarf defensive setups and other silly questions
I wont recommend Diving Tackle (very nice skill!) on a MV 4 player, especial when he has guard. And Claw isn't so powerfull against agi-Teams and here comes the time for Prehensile Tail+Tackle+SF!klauser wrote:Pre Tail requires a double roll. In that case you could simply go with Diving Tackle. Re: Chaos dwarf defensive setups and other silly questions
Why not? You only use DT when it would cause a Turnover. That also means that the opposing piece will be on the ground one square away from your DT CD. So you can stand up your DT piece, mark the prone dodger and start beating up the rest of the their team.pauli42 wrote: I wont recommend Diving Tackle (very nice skill!) on a MV 4 player, especial when he has guard.

Re: Chaos dwarf defensive setups and other silly questions
Hmm might be interesting with a tail or diving tackle if one of the guard dwarves roll a double.. It would take ages for a guard, claw dwarf to get mb, so might as well make him useful directly. Dodge could also be an option if I should be lucky again.
Talking against tail/dt is the slow MA, so positioning would be rather difficult, it's not that likely that you can put him on the ballcarrier
Two claws would be enough for me I think and I would only pick it on a rookie or one with mb already.

Not quite.
In the case of an elf, you could fail the first 4+ dodge, rr with dodge and succeed, and then he's flat on his face.
Great hilarity(though not very effective

Hito> For this particular piece, at least you get to burn their team rerolls as they start with tackle... But can see your point.

But since the blockers all come with Tackle then it would require using a team re-roll which is often well worth going prone for.Hitonagashi wrote: Not quite.

Re: Chaos dwarf defensive setups and other silly questions
I've never been intimidated by Diving Tackle in 1-2 quantities, sorry. It's only good if your team is loaded on positioning skills and still has trouble with mobility teams. Slann, it's a different story. Prehensile Tail is inferior to Diving Tackle, but less inferior on expensive/hitty/slow players, especially those with Stand Firm. On a Dwarf, it's almost a wash, but DT is probably better. I wouldn't take either over Side Step or Dodge, let alone Claw. I'd probably consider Jump Up on doubles after Claw in a perpetual format, or after MB/Claw if I thought I had a good shot for 51 SPP. I'd take Side Step if I already had two or three Claw players, with Dodge should I be so lucky as to roll a second double on that guy.

Re: Chaos dwarf defensive setups and other silly questions
I fully agree with Matt. Diving Tackle and Prehensile Tail shines on backfield safeties like my Skaven Renegade. If i have to mark a down field receiver i love that skills with tackle, Wrestle and SF/SS. But a dwarf winger with SF and P. Tail is so cool and usefull....add dodge and he is perfect!
