I don't pretend to be a rulez guru, but you can't use Piling On when you are knocked down on a block:
So the decision to Pile On is made after the dice have been thrown. Not only this, but it would be a way to get around making an Armor check for yourself if you are knocked down on a both down result.p. 38, LRB - The player may use this skill after he has made a block, but only if the victim was knocked over. The player falls on top of the player he has just knocked down and may make add his Strength to the Armour roll for the victim. For obvious reasons, when a player uses this skill he is knocked over as well. However, do not make an Armour roll for the player who is piling on...

You really can't use real world logic to support rules questions.
There seems to be nothing in the rules that stops Piling On from being used in this scenario.
If you INSIST on real world logic: When knocked down, the player with PiOn 'accidentally' drops full weight on his opponent.
One additional question: By your logic Mighty Blow can't be applied when both is knocked down?
One more: How about claw??

Go check the LRB and you'll find Claw and Mighty Blow say you can add them to any block. They do not say you add them after a block. Milo's been very active on the board recently and can probably settle this to your satisfaction in the near future, though.

Piling On (pg35)
"The player may use this skill after he has made a block, but only if the victim was knocked over."
Knock Downs (pg 11)
"Players that are knocked down or fall over for any reason should be placed face up on the field in the square they were in when they fell over. While prone the player loses his tackle zone and may do nothing except stand up at a cost of three squares of his movement when he next takes an action.
My interpretation is that on a Knock Down result... you didn't make the block, you failed the block. Therefore using PO isn't possible as it is only useable if you make the block, ie. POW, Pushback/POW, OR POW/Skull IF you have Block. All other results fail the block roll and PO can't be used.
And if that isn't enough... if you are knocked down you may do NOTHING except stand up on your NEXT turn, so again PO isn't possible, the Knock Down takes place before you could pile on.
And yes you can and sometimes do have to compare the rules to 'real life' as that IS what they are based on.

I think the rules should be compared to real life, or what 'feels' right for the game, with one important exception - sometimes the rules mechanic is more important to the game balance than absolute realism.tchatter wrote:And yes you can and sometimes do have to compare the rules to 'real life' as that IS what they are based on.

The short answer is "no", but it is a qualified "no" because there are odd ways of interpreting the question which could justify the answer "yes".

The description of the skill say that the PO player first falls on top of his opponent, and that it is assumed that he later rolls back in his own square. How would he be able to do that if he himself are first knocked down in his own square as a resulst of a both-down roll?
I would definately rule: no, you cannot use PO when knocked over yourself!
