The Don's Random Ramblings... Lizardman team pg.3 *Updated*

Post by Don__Vito »

Hi guys!

Decided to try and motivate myself into painting some of the piles and piles of miniatures by starting a small plog. I hate the word 'plog', so instead thought I'd just title it up as random ramblings, which I'm sure it will deteriorate into eventually.

I'm working towards the aim of having all 24 races painted up, with Turn/Reroll/Score Markers usable for every race, and race specific apothecary's, (Where available, or Igor's when not) and Wizards. Then I want to start on the star players!

As of the start of this thread, I have 21/24 teams done. I'm very much a butterfly when it comes to painting, I prefer to start and finish short projects and single minis so this approach should suit me down to the ground.

Being a big supporter of alternative miniature companies and enjoying the converting side of gaming means I'll try and come up with a variety of models for use on my teams and sideline models. This thread really is just to keep myself on track and maybe give some inspiration to people who are looking for ideas themselves.

So, pictures!

This is the stuff I ordered recently and started assembling today. The first photo are three of Heresy Miniatures Succubi. My Chaos Pact team is made up of Rogue Trader Games Workshop Daemons from the 90’s. I wanted something in the Daemon theme to use as the three markers, and these lovely ladies fit the bill nicely along with them being quite cheap in the sale Heresy had over the New Year. Got some resin slate bases for these to go on once they are painted to match the rest of the team.

The second picture has a bunch of stuff I ordered for various teams, going from left to right, top to bottom we have…
- Crocodile Games Priestess of Isis (She will be my Khemri teams wizard)
- Dark Bretheren Tunnel Priest (Not 100% sure as he’s fairly generic, but will be an ‘evil’ teams wizard)
- Heresy’s Vampire Lord Von Blutgericht (Count Luthor for a future Undead team I’m planning)
- Heresy’s Ghoul King (The apothecary for my Strigoi/Ghoul vampire team)
- Heresy Dark Lord (Another I’m not sure, just a generic ‘bad guy’ wizard?)
- Dr Frankenmuller (Igor for the new Undead team)

So I spent the afternoon assembling and making small amendments to the models, and managed to undercoat the Succubi with a red spray paint. Going for a classic red demon look for these beauties! The spray hasn't gone on as evenly as I wanted, I blame the frosty weather of North East England! Hopefully won't affect the end product too much, we'll see...

Image

The rest got built but not undercoated yet, some green stuff curing so these can wait for another day. You’ll note the Priestess lost her mace (I prefer my Bloodbowl models to be without weapons in their hands if it’s an easy conversion), couple of snips, plastic Empire hand replacement and some green stuff to repair her robes and she’s done.

Image

Sure you’re not too impressed with all this bare metal, so here’s a couple of minis I finished off today. The light’s been poor so excuse the less than perfect photos, but somethings better than nothing! Standard stock Goblin from the Ogre box set as Grotty, and a Frog Man Doctor that I’m using as Apothecary for my Greebo Slann team.

Image

Image

Image

Next up will be some conversion on these old metal Warhammer Ghouls, also for the future Undead team I’m planning on getting around to sometime in the next few years! Weapon removals, shoulder/knee pads, etc…

Image

Plenty of pictures of my existing teams if you’d like to see anything I’ve talked about, just ask! Got some more figures to work on assembling tonight when the light goes. There’s an apothecary for my Cult of Slaanesh themed Dark Elf team, a couple of Steampunk Ghouls for my WWII German Necromantic team, and some Privateer Press skeletons for the same future Undead team everything else is for!

Off to try adding some paint to the Succubi now, cheers!

I really enjoy seeing stuff like this - interesting mix of models being used in new and interesting ways. Looking good so far, can't wait to see how those succubi turn out

Don, maybe you could post a pic of the existing teams (or a link to a photo album if wanting to keep the thread lightish). I've seen some of them but it'd be cool to see the collection. :)

Cool. Looking forward to the succubi....painted 3 in flesh tones as rerolls for my Pact team, but was sooo tempted to go with the classic red for one, blue for another and purple (a la Dragon Age Origins Desire demon for the third.) So I bought another set, which are still gathering dust. One day....

Very cool stuff, congrats!

I've noticed how you've complained about the frosty weather result in the undercoat, and couldn't agree more.
I simply hate to undercoat minis in the winter...

Glad to see it didn't affect the end result!

Thanks for the comments guys.

Due to having to take a couple of teams to a tourney this weekend I was spurred into getting the Chaos Pact Daemon Succubi Markers finished last night, along with the Ghoul King Vampire team Apothecary. My SLR camera is on the blink so I'm back to a very old digital one with poor light, so excuse the quality, more just to give you an idea what I've been up to.

More to come when I get a chance to take some photos of other bits...

Axtklinge - the cold weather hasn't stopped and it really does mess up spraying! I've tried keeping them on a radiotpr before and using warm water, but i think it's just the temperature it sprays in. I can only spray outside, so it's a bit of a pain having to undercoat two or even three times.

Deathwing - Was a big fan of that team when you first posted it, you can tell you took more time over those lovely ladies than I did. Still, needs must!

Corvidius - All my teams are on photobucket under the user 'Don__Vito' (Note the double underscore). Not sure how easy it is to search for me but I'll link some when I get the time after work with some easier to find links maybe?

axiom - Thanks! Hopefully I'll not dissapoint!

Damn you and your lovely paint jobs Dave! I thought that I was nice and original with the colourscheme I'm painting my Slann for the next Waterbowl league, and here you are with the same colours.

As per usual with your work, the frog doctor is looking great. I can't wait for your Slann to look like a better version of mine at the same tournament some day.

This week, I've mostly been making.... UNDERWORLD!

Decided my existing Underworld team, which is almost all standard non-converted GW Bloodbowl minis bar the troll, wasn't good enough, so I've started converting a replacement team! I'll take you through pictures after giving you a vision of the team.

I wanted a mutated looking team, with the rats based on crypt ghoul conversions. The theory being the stronger and less mutated rats are the Blitzers, where the weaker heavilly mutated rats make up the linemen on the team. I tried to show this by making the positionals stand more upright from linemen through throwers and then blitzers, and make them less stooped over and more natural looking.

The Troll had to fit on a 30mm base (One of my personal preferences), and the goblins where simple plastic conversions. I wanted them to be a bit mutated but not too 'busy'. Apothecary doubles as my Goblin team doctor so I went with an unconverted Gaspez Arts mini, and the Wizard for the team is from a small company called "Four A Miniatures", who do a small but characterful range with some nice sideline mini potential.

Anyway, onto photos!

(Cookie for anyone who gets all the bits used on the models!)

Blitzers - Bit blurry, but you get the idea. More powerful and upright than anything else on the team, and one is armed with fighting claws and one has just sprouted a claw!
Image

Throwers - Doesn't really show it well, but one is holding a ball and pointing, and the other has extra arms (Four in total), and a Big Hand. My wife wants him to be called Jeremy Beadle, and although I pointed out he has an extra Small Hand, she wouldn't back down...
Image

Linemen - The smallest and most feral looking of the bunch. same as the throwers they have some greenstuffed fur on their shoulders and flanks.
Image

This picture shows what I was getting at with the evolution of the skaven positionals...
Image

Goblins - From top left to bottom right you have: Normal Goblin, Two Heads, Foul Appearance, Two Heads, Normal again, and Horns. Covered most of the standard mutations I'm likely to take I thought?
Image
Image

Troll and TTM Marker - Not sure if he'll be used as a 7th Goblin as I doubt I'd ever need him, but thought it was too cool an opportunity to not model! The Troll is an unconverted Slag Troll from Privateer Press, not sure what I'm going to do with him, if anything?
Image

Wizard and Apothecary
Image

Star Players - Plastic conversions again for the two goblins, Fezglitch is a chopped up Fungus with skaven plastics.
Image

I'd be interested to hear what you think of them, and what suggestions you'd have for further conversions or additions before I start painting them?

Awesome, I love the fly headed gobbo. As for the slag troll with the pose its in you could green stuff a large tongue curling out of its mouth like a whip. You know, for a prehensile tongue/tentacles mutation.

Thanks guys.

The fly head is from the Warhammer Chaos Spawn plastic kit, it's got loads of great bits on and is highly recommended for any converters of chaotic flavoured teams!
