Re: The Don's Random Ramblings...
Remember these guys?

Well, they took a bath and lost their weapons!

They are destined to be part of the 'perfect' Undead team I'm putting together. Still struggling to find Mummies I really like, the Goblin Forge upright one is very close to what I'm looking for so far. Giving him a headswap to lose the goofy looking head he comes with, but he fits the bill otherwise by being larger than the rest of the team (Width and height), and not lurching forwards at speed (I imagine my Mummies to be powerful shamblers rather than agile blitzing types). Tried buying the Willy Miniatures Mummy but he was a bit too small and khemri-ey. Next option is the new Greebo Flesh Golum (LOVE him), with some greenstuffed bandages. Until he arrives, any suggestions?
On the WIP front, most of what I'm doing at the moment is converting and assembling over painting, as I'm struggling to get time during daylight hours to get anything done. Hopefully I'll get the old paintbrushes out soon enough and ramble from one project to another!

Re: The Don's Random Ramblings...
In my view, these ghouls are the best GW ghouls to work with - I like the styling of them a bit more than the current plastics, and the old 1980s ghouls don't have the consistency within the small range. Any pads/helmets on them, or will they take to the field in all their bare-fleshed glory?

Re: The Don's Random Ramblings...
I'm wracking my brain over what shoulder/knee pads would suit them at the moment actually. Thinking maybe the smaller Chaos Marauder ones or the Newest Grave Guard shoulder pads, but without a spare set to try for size I'm a little lost. Any ideas?

ME TOO! I really like the look of the Willy mummies but I also think they are too small. I want to SEE that ST5.Don__Vito wrote:...Still struggling to find Mummies I really like...
I've thought about converting this guy with a bunch of bandages and stuff but I'm still hesitant.

Re: The Don's Random Ramblings...
Working on the ST5 Mummy conundrum and think I may havve something! Starting with this...

...I thought he may make a decent Mummy when bandaged and Bloodbowl'ed! He is a bit massive, so fits the bill nicely for what I'm after. Here he is against a figure you'll all be familiar with, and against the rejected Mummy and the Goblin Forge one I'll use with a headswap. Think he fits the bill nicely?

And here's the first round of greenstuffing, very hard to get the bandages thin enough to wrap tightly without it constantly splitting, so I compromised with looser thicker wrappings. I think it looks ok, what do you reckon?

Need to try and file down the small fingerprints on his leg, was very hard to do without getting any on him! Next step will be to do his arms and add pads.

Re: The Don's Random Ramblings...
Base model for the mummy is great - 4A miniatures?
I sympathise on the thin bandage issue but I think they currently look more like thick leather straps. GS can be filed so it might be worth trying to shave some of the thickness away

Re: The Don's Random Ramblings...
Good spot, yeah he's from 4A and very nicely priced. Good little company with some nice alternative minis, hoping for some nice new releases from them soon!
The bandages I quite like thick, but think it may be me being lazy and not wanting to file them down!

Re: The Don's Random Ramblings...
Here's a thought for the bandages. Just give him an even cover of green stuff all over where you want bandages to be and then draw the bandages in with a toothpick, blade, or dull pencil. That's how I did the bandage around the right wrist of this Ugroth Bolgrot conversion I did to cover up the nasty joint that I was left with. Admittedly, this was the first time I tried it and it could have been better. I've done a few more since then and I've been pretty pleased with the results.

I like the mummy figure, but agree re thickness of bandages, thinner would be tempting.
Also, just as an aside, Burgun, what did you use for the shoulder pads on the Orc?

Re: The Don's Random Ramblings...
Bandaged the arms and added a shoulder pad, also replaced the goofy head on the second mummy. Think the second mummy matches bulk nicely, but needs raising slightly to give the added height the first one has.

Re: The Don's Random Ramblings...
Got the paintbrushes out to 'complete' my Chaos Daemon team (counts as Chaos Pact). Only needed the Wizard and Apothecary finishing, so had a quick bash tonight and managed these!
Apothecary

Wizard

And who says there has been a scale creep from the 80/90's up to today...?

(Pictures of the rest of the team can be found HERE if you're interested?)

Wow, great idea for a Pact team! Lovely theme.
And I rather like the big stocky mummies and the thick bandages look. Can't wait to see the team painted.

Re: The Don's Random Ramblings...
Yet another change of heart, haha! Bought the new Greebo Flesh Golum thinking it looked quite large and may match the Four A Mummy better, and it did! So gave him the bandage treatment (Thinner this time, think it looks a bit better), and now have this meaty pair.

Seriously, they are MASSIVE, which is exactly what I wanted and look perfect in scale for ST5, one of my biggest bugbears about the GW Mummies.
Now I need to decide if I'm going to strip the first one and rebandage him...?
