Tactics vs High TV dwarves

Post by gollumullog »

So I've got a game vs the runner-ups from our season last year:
Opponent: Steel Dragons: 2350k http://www.thunderbowl.ca/tbsn/index.ph ... &obj_id=76
My team: Undead 1540k http://www.thunderbowl.ca/tbsn/index.ph ... obj_id=199

I'm thinking these for inducements:
Count Luthor
Zombie w kick
1 bloodweiser babes
Igor
wizard

Any thoughts, or strategies?

I don't think I've ever played a high TV dwarf team.

I have never played against such a high TV Dwarf team. It is a rather lovely team, although it has more good players than can take the field.

The Wizard seems an obvious pick. Other than that, I have found that Dwarf teams can struggle against raw ST. So I might be inclined to take (for example) Ramtut.

Hope that helps.

I'd be less inclined to take Morg, given all that Guard and Dauntless the team has. Knocking down any player shouldn't be too hard for that Dwarven team.

Agree about the Wizard, it will be incredibly valuable. Beyond that, I dunno. Maybe Hack En Slash and some bribes? Dwarves are tough nuts to crack even with a chainsaw, but given how valuable some of his players are it might keep him scared and might lead to him going hunting after Hack and not one of the players more valuable to your offensive or defensive setup.

As for tactics, I'd avoid caging. Try to run your players as spread out as possible and only make screens or loose cages, at best. His players are all Str3, so if they're all spread out in 1-on-1 fights against your offense, you've made all of his Guard ineffective. Given how immobile Undead is and how much Diving Tackle he has, if you bunch up then it's going to be nigh impossible for you to hold any ground during a blocking war, as everything can quickly become 2-die his choice.

I have a rule with a wizard...don't take one unless you can guarantee to pick the ball up after. With that much blodge and DT, I don't think you can.

Just as a point to Sme and Rogue...you can't take Morg on the Undead teams (including necro and khemri). I'd extend Smeborg's advice and take Ramtut, Count, Babe.

That gives you 4 ST 5+ players to play with, and the count can make a pretty awesome ball carrier. Try and tie the troll slayers up with zombies (though if he's smart, he won't let you do that), and if you see one running loose, take a MB 3d at it.

Basically, the trick to playing dwarves with high ST players is to wait for them to clump together, then chuck a mummy in(and maybe a zombie). Ideally, you end up with clusters of 2-4 dwarves each surrounding a high ST player, while the rest of your team actually does the work.

I think putting the TV high for dwarves is a bit harsh. How will they see it?

They can see it, they just can't change channels or turn it off.

The Count with his Gaze and a Wizard are a must. Ramtut should help divert attention from the rest of the team.

Looks to be 10K short of that. 2350-1540 = 810 in inducements. Ramtut + Count = 770

It's either:
Ramtut, Count
Ramtut/Count Luthor, Setekh, 2 babes, Igor
Ramtut/Count Luthor, Setekh, 2 babes, bribe
Ramtut/Count Luthor, Setekh, Igor, bribe
Ramtut/Count Luthor, Setekh, babe, wizard
Ramtut/Count Luthor, Setekh, 2 bribes

Or some combination that includes mercenaries.

he only has 2 SF pieces, so Setekh might not be as useful as otherwise vs dwarves...but he allows for some flexibility

Check out the card decks.

Some will give the opponent negatives, another will give a death roller and or remove some of his team from play due to xzy.

Maybe a chance of taking 4 cards @ 200k a shot but it means you can upset his game plan.

The Random event deck looks good.

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

So we played our game, and it was close early one, but then the dwarves were just too much for me.

http://www.thunderbowl.ca/tbsn/index.ph ... t&mid=2633

I ended up taking Misc Mayhem cards, hoping for Eclipse (and maybe also rogue wizard), so that I could fireball his "goblins" after the first turn and hope for some deaths.

I didn't get eclipse but I got some good cards:
Rowdy Fans. Fanatic Invasion. Rogue Wizard. Heckler. Sprinkler Malfunction.

I hoped to score early and then use sprinkler malfunction to slow him down in the second half. Didn't turn out like that, as we had pitch invasion (he had fame, although only by 1 point, even though he had a 5 point lead on FF), I dropped 2 of his players, he dropped 5 or so. I picked up the ball and pulled back so he couldn't hit my ball carrier. He killed one of my mummies on his first hit (failed regen), so I opted to throw deep into the open, and then try and scramble. almost worked too.

Rogue wizard hit him perfectly, but only knocked down 1.

ended up with 3 pitch invasions in 3 kickoffs.
