Hi All,

Well I'm jumping on the old band wagon and starting a plog in the attempt it helps me to get through the mahooosive (geordie for Massive) pile of unpainted teams that I have!

You may remember recently (well a month or so ago is recent in painters terms) that I asked about dipping, well the perfectionist in me isn't really making the most of the whole quick dip and done. Any ways here are the start of my Halfling team (help with names welcome!)

These are excellent Matt! I think the biggest compliment I could pay them is that they don't look dipped! Like you say, maybe you're missing the whole 'get them on the table asap' factor dip has but the extra work you're putting in is more than making up for the time spent. Great looking team!

Cheers for the kind words guys, i'm really pleased with the effect that the dip shade has given. I think it will look better once i get a dull coat on them too.

I'll get you a full colour breakdown when i'm back home, but time wise (without dip drying time) is probably an hour or so? i dunno its hard to tell as i do my painting infront of the t.v and i get easily distracted lol, all i know is that these were painted a lot quicker than normal.

The front rank of minis were prob at tht stage in half an hour as thats just foundation base colours then dip followed by base colours again, think the flesh has a dwarf flesh highlight but thats all.


oh and @ Norse, i like the name cheers mate My mind was going the confectionary path so something like rhubard and custard or the battenberg bandits (yeah i know the red should be pink)

It's a HUGE improvement that you hightlighted after the dip.

PS: Some good base work will raise the the general impression even more!

Hi Guys, JUst a quicky update! More flings have been painted and I hope to get this team finished today or tomorrow (tree's on order) so will update with pics once that is done. I'm wondering what you all think is the best dull coat medium to use? and am I better off going with a brush on or spray one? I currently have GW purity seal but this still leaves a bit of a shiny effect and also has the 1 in 6 chance of fogging ...

I use Testors Dullcote Spray on. Never had any fog/misting problems and not heard any bad reviews. Worth pointing out I'm very careful with my sprays though, making sure they are warm, not spraying in moist areas, shaking the full 2 minutes, etc...

"Frosting" will happen in high humidity. I solved this by getting a dehumidifier for my basement. Also, you can get rid of the "Frosting" effect on minis by spraying them, again in a low humidity environment.

Testors Dullcote cures all. Living in the PNW, there's always a decent amount of humidity. I hit all of my models with a semi-gloss spray that always fogs up, every single time. I wait a few minutes and then hit it with Dullcote and the fog goes away 100%. Been doing this for a few years now. The semi-gloss protects the miniature much better than straight Dullcote, and the Dullcote gives it a nice matte finish and cures the fogging.
