Package came in mail!

I was super-excited to finally get them!

It was only 11 models out of the 31 I sent him.

I called him and had to once again bitch and complain.

Rest of team going out on Monday.... hopefully. :x

Yeah I would never post the entire email thread, but the entire thing has been a joke.

I can understand personal problems going on, but I would think first order of of business before you take off miles away (no cell, no email, no contact) for awhile is to clear up all loose ends and paid commissions.

And when a guy sends you two Impact cases full of models.... send 2 back.... not 1.

Sorry to hear you've had trouble, hope it works out for you.

I had a problem like this with a dude called Zinak once, he just kept stringing me along and making excuses "oh almost done, they'll be in the post tomorrow" and then I'd spend three weeks freaking out that no package arrived etc etc. And when I did finally get them back he'd done a pretty substandard job, I got the distinct impression he'd just finally gave in after months of doing nothing and just rushed through them.

There's only so much you can do though, because at the end of the day these guys have your stuff held to ransom :(

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

+1. i'm not the best painter in the world, but i enjoy it, and this kinda shit is the reason the last thing i'd do is pay someone to paint my miniatures for me. this goes on quite a bit over on theminiaturespage(tmp).

Or a painters-you've-had-good-experience-with thread.
I for one just had a team commission painted and had a really good experience with it.

Trouble with "painters to avoid" is that someone with a grudge can colour many people's judgement, fairly or not.

I had a similar problem once with another painter and I find somewhere his fix phone number and called him in the middle of the night telling him that i was going to pick up my minis the week after no matter the state they were in and they got home to me in 2 or 3 days with urgent delivery service. I bet most people dont want someone angry visiting them at home or at their job.

Better to go with a "recommended painters" list. A list of people we've had good experience with.

I know Glowworm recommends Cornish Money (reasonable prices, good paintjobs too)

I do feel bad about dragging his name thru the mud a bit (yes I could be much worse, especially with a worldwide podcast at my disposal :x ), but this thread helps me vent a bit since when I vent to the actual painter, it does not do much but get a bunch of Sorrys.

He was supposed to send package #2 today. I contacted him and he didnt send it and said tomorrow for sure. I told him I want it sent Priority because I have a tournament this Saturday I had planned (months ago) to use them at. We'll see what happens.

I paint on commission, but very rarely as I'm a very slow painter. From my standpoint (which is likely very different from others who get screwed over on the other side of the coin), I figure I'll have the clients minis, so I don't need to be fully paid up-front. I will sometimes take half, or if it's a trade deal, might want to make sure the client really has what I want. I'm honest and up-front about my time. Clients *know* they won't get their stuff back for 3-6 months.

I then make sure to send updates via email - usually showing how much work I have have/have not done periodically.

When the minis are done, and the client says that they are happy (based on the pics I've taken) I ask for payment, then ship the finished models to them.

It's really not much different than construction contractors. Don't pay it all up-front, make sure you have good contact info, check references, and be *reasonably* understanding. There's just no excuse for you to be put into the position that this painter has put you in. Maybe there's a reason that I sometimes *take* commissions but never *buy* commissions. Actually, I did once, and the minis were never done. At least I got them back and didn't pay anything...

Good luck. I hope you get the full team back along with your money.
