What models should I use for Woodies: The Dandy Lions

Post by fe2mike »

Hey guys, just looking for ideas for miniatures for a wood elf team: The Dandy Lions

They will be painted the classic green and yellow
See the team logo attached.

Any ideas for miniatures would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you're prepared to convert, perhaps check out what this guy did with parts from a couple of GW plastic sets: http://www.asrai.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18969

I think it might fit with your logo and colour scheme pretty well.

Question is why spubbbbbba never posted them here....

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

Don't you mean spubbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbba?

Anyway....Perhaps Greebo's Sylvania team would be nice. Do you have a certain style you're going for? Honestly I have a hard time getting the image of those terrible GW 3ed mini's out of my head when you say "classic green and yellow".

IMO the 2nd ed elf team works fine for both high, pro and wood elfs plus they are one of the best team sculpted ever - fact!

Otherwise, I'd agree with burgun's suggestion of the Greebo Sylvania team as it seams to match your logo well.

I like the shadowforge standard elfs the most but when I imagine dandy lions I see male elfs with top hats and canes

I agree with this statement...however the 2nd ed elf team doesn't strike me as "dandy".

Hell...maybe that terrible GW 3rd ed team would actually fit in this case. They look like goofy little pansies.

"Wood Elves?!"

"Slowly I turned... step by step... inch by inch..."

I'm sure some mini company out there has anthropomorphic flowers....

I used Impact!'s Timberline Elfs for my Wood Elves. I'm happy with them and quite pleased with my paint job as well. The wines were a pain to paint with my skills so I'm happy I didn't mess them up. I especially like the hunters for War Dancers.

Do you have any pictures posted anywhere, I would really like to see them with a different paint job or at least a closer look than the pics on the impact site.

As far a second edition models (which I agree are great), unless someone is selling a full rosters worth in the next week or two, they are out.

Thanks for all the ideas and opinions guys, feel free to keep them coming and I'll let you know what I decide.

I checked my photobucket and it seems I haven't shot my Wood Elves yet. That's something I'll have to do at some point. I'll post some pics in this thread once I get around to it.

Why I'm sure there are plenty of haters around here that would love to help you SHOOT your Wood Elves.

I had a feeling I was setting my Wood Elves up for a cheap shot. I'm so surprised to see you of all people cashing in on it... NOT!!!!

That’s my tree daemon team I took to the GT in 2009, I used them in the Star Bowl in 2010 and again at the GT in 2011. I was trying to win best painted and had been working on them for quite a while so they were “top secret” until the tournament to try and maximise impact.

I was less active on this site back then, and come to think of it have done 15 teams over the last 5 years and probably only posted half them here. Mostly I concentrated on adding them to my blog on FUMBBL.

They were based on my vengeance kindred Wood Elf army for fantasy that used a lot from the dark elf range and used a completely different painting style on. In that the dryads were built from the lovely metal Diaz daemonettes (as is the thrower in my team) with plastic dryad arms. For them I sculpted on some hair with leaves and painted that green, the tentacles were too hard to remove so I left them in as vines and painted them blue as a contrast. The metal daemonettes were too hard to convert to the dynamic poses I wanted and the plastic ones had more daemonic faces as well.

The rest of the army was rather samey and natural made up of dark greens, browns, greys and with wooden swords and bronze for metals. The small amount of blue really captured the eye and so I went the whole hog with giving them completely blue hair to stand out from the grey skin, brown arms and legs and silver armour. Plus blue is my favourite colour to paint and GW does some really nice ones so will take any excuse to use it really. ;)
