Challenge to miniature makers
I know it's difficult, but see if you can make a team that DOESN'T consist of all female soft porn models. Go on, just to test yourself.

Re: Challenge to miniature makers
A lot of impact!s stuff is good and not soft porn. Most of their riske stuff is from other manufactures. Go ahead and check them out.

Sadly the female figures seem to sell better. Not that it is BB, but I like their take on roller derby minis appropriately attired atheltic female figures.

I'm not in the market for any all female teams, but I agree. A one-off "sexy" team is one thing, but when all of your female teams look that way...it's just silly.
I like this fact, too.bouncergriim wrote: Sadly the female figures seem to sell better. Not that it is BB, but I like their take on roller derby minis appropriately attired atheltic female figures.

Re: Challenge to miniature makers
If you don't want soft porn miniatures then just don't buy them. But if others are going to buy them then why should they not be made? I personally have no use for such mini's but there are some beautiful sculpts that I would consider if I were doing a team like that for novelty purposes. Greebo's Sylvanian team springs to mind. Beautiful sculpts.

I'd like to believe that outside of some of our cheerleaders that we've always done that. We have a cheerleader coming out in May that won't pass your challenge that we made that would go very nicely with Greebo Sylvian Elf team. But it is the exception to what we like to do with the female figure.Northernknight wrote:I know it's difficult, but see if you can make a team that DOESN'T consist of all female soft porn models. Heck the figure we are sculpting right now for our roller derby game based on a player from my local team is definitely not soft porn.

Re: Challenge to miniature makers
I can sympathise somewhat with the model manufacturers as at such a small scale it is not easy to differentiate the male and female form in a realistic way.
If you were to dress an athletic man and woman of similar height in full US football kit then they would not look massively different and this would be even less apparent were you to scale them down to 28mm size. I believe modern day soldiers have the same difficulty as when dressed in full kit the female soldiers do not look much different from the male aside from being smaller on average.
So either they need to make the model scantily clad to show off the difference in figure or grossly exaggerate the female curves, which may not be all that practical on a sportswoman.

Re: Challenge to miniature makers
My ire comes from looking for an alternative Pro Elf team. There are the Neomics ones, which I don't rate compared to the GW Pro Elf team. That's it, unless I want porn Elves. So I will have to get the GW ones, and pay through the nose, because there is no alternative in this case.burgun824 wrote:If you don't want soft porn miniatures then just don't buy them. But it was while I was looking that I realised just how many female teams go down that route. Personally I would like to have a mix of sexes on my team, especially an Elf team.

Ahhhh. Well, the "elf" teams do have a rather large gap in the market. I'm with you on that one so I understand your frustration.

2nd ed elves or Black Scorpion "humans" are perfect for pro elves IMHO

Re: Challenge to miniature makers
The Black Scorpion team is pretty nice, but I have two small issues with them.
1) They only work as High Elves IMO
2) Some of them are wearing capes. Capes + BB =

Re: Challenge to miniature makers
For me 2nd ed Elves are still the only aesthetic option when it comes to Pro Elves (and Wood Elves for that matter). I haven't yet seen an alternative that hits the spot in terms of design and quality of sculpting. But then again, I often say that about anything where Jes Goodwin sculpted an earlier (and nearly always better) version.Norse wrote:2nd ed elves or Black Scorpion "humans" are perfect for pro elves IMHO

Re: Challenge to miniature makers
the capes are only waist length, so no issue for me..
I agree on the long capes looking out of place, but shorter ones are fair dinkum I reckon..
