Slann Lineman doubles 1st skill?

Post by The Strange Dude »

Ok so my slann team is starting to build currently it stands at

5 Line frogs w/ various SPP but no skills
1 Linefrog w/4 AG coming up on second skill (looking at strip ball)
1 Blitzer just rolled 6,4 thought long and hard and going dodge
1 Blitzer Guard coming up on second skill (looking at block - in hindsight should have taken it first)
2 Catchers both w/dodge both close to second skill (going block unless doubles then maybe accurate)

4 rerolls an apoth and 80k in the bank (saving for either a krox or a 5th reroll)

and my second linefrog to level up rolls doubles! So what was going to be kick or fend now becomes a bit more of a quandry. So whats the opinion stay the course or pick something else (leader?, guard? something I haven't considered?)

I say guard over leader. You have lots of skills coming up it seems and so should take the doubles where you can

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

There are four doubles skills in this world, for players with G skills and no M access: Guard, Dodge, Jump Up and Side Step. If you don't know better, as in this case, the one to take is Guard.

With the list that mattgslater put in I'd probably swap in diving tackle instead of jump up but that's just me. Of that list though I think that dodge, side step and jump up/diving tackle are all good 2nd and 3rd choices once you've got a career path set (I generally find that the first skill you put on a player defines what path you generally want to take them) where as guard is a great first skill especially for teams that don't have a great deal of access to it

I’d agree with you there in principle, DT is great for bash teams that have to face elves and actually want to have a shot at winning. But as slann can have 4 players who start with it then I wouldn’t take it for them.

I’d also add MB to Matt’s list as some of the hybrid teams don’t have access to many players with strength access or need to give those players block and/or guard 1st.

But in many situations, including this I’d say Guard is the best option.
