Necro Wolf cut or keep?

Post by Dr. Von Richten »

Ok, so my Necros have just played against my friends Slann, match ended 2-2 (2 x 'Blitz!' in his favour will do that), but more important, my Block MB Werewolf got -AV'ed. Cut or keep?

Rest of the team:

1 WW with Block
1 FG with Block
1 FG rookie
1 Wight with Guard
1 Wight Rookie
1 Ghoul with Block
1 Zombie rookie
4 Zombie Journeymen

3 RR
2 FF
80k in the Bank

Of course, I don't have to decide now, he's MNG anyways, but still ...

I'd wait to drop him. Just because you're already hurting for cash with 4 j-men and he's still completely functional for the time being until he can more easily be replaced or earns a noble death on the pitch.

The -AV will be a liability though and he should be gotten rid of as soon as comfortably possible.

Burgun's got most of it.... I would go further to say that he is no more in trouble than your ghoul and could actually regen.... You've already the skills for a killer blitzer... so run him out in a blaze of glory, taking as many victims with him and generating some zombahz! Maybe keep him back in the safety position? Just don't let him get any more spp except through Cas and the occasional Int....

Wait to fire him till you got another Mb Wolf.

By the way, the wolf is the most protected player in the team. The opponents should have few chances to exploit his -AV, especially since you got only a single Wolf to screen.

Agree :orc:

The Wolves should be the most protected players on your team. Keep him around, for now.

If the other Wolf rolled a double for MB, and I had the cash, then I'd instantly replace him.

I’d keep him for now as he’s a really brutal player with frenzy/claw/MB.

Even without the –AV he should be used for hit and run attacks and I’d happily put a ghoul in harms way to protect him as they are easy to replace.

You are not far off the cash needed to replace him if he ends up spending too much time off the pitch as well. But 4 journey-zombies is not good. Time to go on a recruitment campaign on your opposing teams.

If you manage less than 16 fouls a game then I’d consider it a bad day. :D

Thanks for all the replies!

I'll keep him until he 'goes down in a blaze of glory' as Digger so nicely put it , or until the other Wolf rolls a double.

Oh and I don't foul unless it's against some truly deserving target like a Wardancer or something like that (unless someone starts fouling my players, then all bets are off). We have a friendly 'open' tabletop league and for me, fouling is just not done vis-a-vis people I like and consider friends.

Maybe that's terribly naive, but that's how I roll. 8)

use him to assist on fouls/blocks to get 2 dice while you build up a new MB Wolf, then cut him. Personally I am a big fan of having two Wolves on a team so I would get the second one asap

I don't see an issue with the Zombie journeymen. if they get MVP you can buy them, it isn't like you will be using them to get td's and it keeps your TV low

Hire Journeymen with SPP (even just a cas), make sure you keep your full load of positionals, and when you can drop 200k and still have more than 100k left, replace all your Journeymen with a proper bench.

The problem is that fouling ability varies by team.

A DE team that doesn't foul is giving up a lot less then a Khemri one for example.

Overall Necro are above average in fouling since they have cheap pieces that can get DP on a normal roll. MV4 is a problem on them though.

I've had a DP zombie as my real MVP in games over my lvl 7 wolf or my two +AG wights - fouling can be that big of a difference maker.

Of course there is no guarantee...

Yep, fouling is pretty weak now but still has some of the old stigma attached to it.

If coaches in a league frown on fouling I hope they do the same on using the dodge skill with AG4 or using claw/MB or PO (or all 3) on late game pointless blocks.
