It's a bit surprising how often those three are coming up on the various lists.

That is a top suggestion.

For Bull Centaurs I use the original ones that pushed the various spikey CD warmachines, though you have to do a bit of modelling to get rid of the sword on the side.

2nd ed all the way.
Skaven, Dwarfs, Orcs. In that order.
Still in print ranges, I'd go for the Impact!/Greebo Sarcos being streets ahead of any other.
I'm probably going to pick up the Gaspez Slann, but using his Cameleonti as catchers instead of the ones in the Frogman range (which I'm not as big a fan of).
