The Beasts of Otmoor

Post by barnacle111 »

Introducing the winner of the 'Most likely to have escaped from an asylum', a converted trophy in Albion, Mad Paul!! He plays for the chaos pact team, 'The Beasts of Otmoor' at number 23. His career highlights (sponsored by Orcidas) include:
- breaking the neck of the once rising star Phal Gutrot (troll for the Orc team 'Chillidia Rear'),
- running in a 30 yard winning touchdown in the 2nd Cup of Dread,
- and completing his button collection.

Mad Paul has some issues and hopefully soon if I can keep motivated, we'll meet his team mates, including the ogre Hell 'the body' Mcfearsome, and 'Nervous' Mick Von Massenbach a ringer brought in from the Mainland...

The Beasts of Otmoor

Awesome work - I love it, can't wait to see the rest of the team! That ogre name is inspired :) What's the miniature you've used here?

As for feedback, if you were to change anything, perhaps look to add some complexity to the skin tone, perhaps through gentle shading (with black, perhaps) - it's quite uniform at the moment, though I'm nitpicking. I tend to go all out on a player's skin, as I think for relatively little effort you get really good returns.

In contrast, I like solid fill eyes - dotting the pupil can make a figure look cartoonish - leaving it white and shading around the socket (as you've done) will lend a more sinister tone.

Disclaimer: I can't paint ;)

He looks deranged, good job! :D

The only thing i would do is a touch of black wash on the red in his mouth? The team colour scheme is cool, cant wait to see the rest of them

So this is a neomics(?) multi part figure with a heresy ogre head green stuffed on. Thanks for the thoughts guys. I agree with the skin looking flat, I might have a play. I also actually meant to give the mouth a black wash but completely forgot! Thanks for the reminder! I have a couple more of these figures to use for more marauders, but I'm undecided who to use for hell the ogre, a troll and the skaven, de, and gob! A team part designed but not completely realized!!

The neomics troll is without parallel, for me. Check out impact!'s armored night elf, too - the look might be transferable. Heresy have a human runner on sale at the moment for £2-£3 that would look cool alongside this guy, and their ogres are amazing if you wanted to check those out while you're at the site

Nice one there Barnacle!
The orange/grey scheme works really well.
Looking forward to see his team mates!

By the way, any chance Phal Gutrot was #7?

Looks awesome! My only thought to add would be maybe on the chest logo (which is awesome btw), on the teeth area, to paint first with black, then with the white, leaving a small border of black. It might help the details to stand out a bit more.

Post the whole team when you can!

Thanks all. Shteve0, have to agree on the neomics troll, I love it and would fit in well.
Ax cheers mate!
Lunch - the teeth were an afterthought, but you are right, they need more definition, I'll try doing the black lining approach.

I've found a dark elf, a minor conversion, but I like it, so more painting to come over the next few days.. What else is the Melbourne cup public holiday for! (Aside from horse racing if that's your thing!)

Right, time to introduce a couple more of the team...

We have No.41 sponsored by McMurtys, Klaus 'twinkle toes' Von Libziel. Klaus is an unusual man, despite his huge physical bulk, he is as light on his feet as a ballerina (best not say that to his face though), because as with his brother who we met previously, Mad Paul, Klaus has a somewhat short temper. Klaus is the older of the two brothers, and originally started playing bloodbowl for the now bankrupt and disbanded team, The White Horse Wanderers (apparently the horse ended up bolting..). He was picked up by the Beasts of Otmoor due to his exceptional and spectacular sidestep, which has left many elf catchers hanging their heads in shame.

Notable achievements include
- a hatrick of touchdowns against a notable Woodelf team. The impressive fact was that all three were run in from the Beasts side of the half way, through the line of scrimmage. Not one hand touched him as he danced...ahem...ploughed his way through the defense.
- And also winning the Genteel Ballroom Rosette.

At No.53, we have a player who some might say is illegal in a traditional chaos pact team, but that doesnt seem to stop him taking to the field [in a counts as another marauder way... I like the 2nd ed mongrel horde thought of just one of everything!]. This player is of course none other than Sumteef 'Gary Owen' Gravefiller. A long time friend of the rather unorthodox coach Rudolph 'Blindside' Otker, Sumteef was an early recruit for the phenomenal power of his right boot. Rumour has it that in a game against the Norse team Hargle's Harriers, the ball actually came down with snow on it after Sumteefs huge up and under. By the time it landed, the ref was half way through a cup of tea (or so the rumour goes).

He has spent years perfecting his kicking, usually on the thing that terrifies him most, gerbils.

Finally for the current update, comes in the lovely (from a distance) No. 72 Elsbeth 'Florence' Knightingale. Florence was so named as an ironic reference to her caring attitudes to the rest of her team. She is a very skilled runner, although on several occasions she has been known just to walk off the picth if the team is not playing well, or if she feels that there is something more interesting in the stands/down the street. It has been a source of constant irritation for the coach Rudolph, but given when she bothers to play she can make the difference between winning and losing, and given the legendary status she has with the Beast fans, he has no choice but to put up with her somewhat frustrating attitude!

She is the highest scoring of any of the Beasts players, and has played fewer then half of the games from start to finish despite never being substituted or injured.
