Re: DreadBall - The Futuristic Sports Game
It’s difficult to compare the 2 games this early.
On the 1 hand Dreadball is new and hasn’t been playtested by the public much. It may prove that there are some teams or tactics that are virtually unstoppable which would kill the long term interest in it. But looks like they are planning lots of updates and Mantic tend to be good at responding to feedback so I’m sure they’ll be only too happy to tweak the rules. We've only seen 4 teams so far so it will be interesting to see how the models for the other turn out.
Another danger would be making everything finely balanced but also dull if many of the teams are too similar.
Bloodbowl has had 20 years of development and several million games so it tried and tested. The variety of teams and range of TV can work against it as things are very different with rookie teams compared to those 2000+. Playing a similar but different game will be a huge appeal to many BB coaches I’m sure. Whether they stick with it will be the test I suppose.

I really like what I have read. The rules seem well thought out, easy to learn, yet allow you to make it a very tactical game. I like the way the dice rolling is done, no modifiers to the actual goal/target number just a mod on how many dice you will get to roll. I also like that fact that you may get all of your dice taken away but you still have a chance if you choose to use your coaching dice.
The one rule that seems a bit fuzzy is when the ball hits the wall. The wording says one thing and the digram seems to say another!!! I think that was the only rule that seemed strange.

I stared at that diagram for quite a while. Eventually it clicked - A & D are showing you what happens when the ball goes into a corner (which there are only 6 of on the pitch). B/C is showing you what happens when the ball hits a "straight" wall.

All that you write is true. Indeed it would be fun to port some of that stuff into BB to see how it plays. My core feeling remains the same because I have seen it in many systems and that is with a limited level of differentiation in base stats you ultimately limit the places the game can go (unless you want a special rules mess like 40k).daloonieshaman wrote:Depth...

AdvanceOp's Dreadball Roster Sheet (XL Template)
For best results make sure you have SF Sportsnight Font.. it's free too!
Both the roster sheet and cheat sheet could use some work when I have time (drop downs and the like on the roster) but they should get you by until you have the game in hand

The roster sheet is protected to prevent accidental over-writing of formula, but theres no password so feel free to "Value Add"

Go mine in the post yesterday. The game is well done and all of the components are a good production. The miniatures sem a bit mallee than I am used to. They seem more in scale with Lord of the Rings miniatures.

Re: DreadBall - The Futuristic Sports Game
Got mine last week. Pretty nice set - the mins required more assembly than I was expecting. They all went together very nicely, though, except for he veer-myn, which were a PitA. I've been putting together plastic models for nearly 30 years now, so I was surprised by this.
