Impact! announces $35 plastic team sets

Post by GalakStarscraper »

A new link for fantasy football teams and figures at a great price: http://www.impactminiatures.net/index.p ... fballteams

The last year was a tough economic time. I've talked to many different suppliers of fantasy football miniatures and almost all of them report that sales were down in 2012 vs 2011. Whether that is due to the world economy or really cool KickStarter projects pulling money from the gamer's available funds, in general the average gamer now needs some assistance to pick up everything he'd like to get gaming wise.

Impact! has been working for much of 2012 to move into the plastics world to create more affordable options for our customers.

We are happy to announce that we now have the first of our plastic resin teams available for sale. The plastic formula involved here is not brittle (so won't break when used for gaming) and is lighter and easier to convert than pewter.

Our end goal is by the end of 2013 to hopefully offer all the Impact! teams as team sets for $35 USD.

To start with we are offering 5 different Sarcos and Scotling teams in plastic for $35 each.

In addition, as a result of creating the moulding we can offer some packs of smaller sets of figures as well as the reduced plastics price (such as a 4 pack of Salt Water Crocs for $14 or a Sarcos Leviathan for $8)

Chris and I at Impact! are really happy to see this long term project of ours finally yield some great results. And we hope to continue working during 2013 to expand our range in this category all while trying to keep to the $35 per a team pricing point to get your fantasy football miniatures to you more affordably.

Affordable Blood Bowl teams of any shape or form is an awesome thing, especially for trying to bring new blood through. Given that a "cheap" metal team will run at a minimum for £40, to be able to pick up a team for £15 less is outstanding.

Tom, sounds great. Are the painted pics of the new plastic figures?

Also, would you mind explaining what plastic resin is? I'm interested to understand how the material works & feels.

Finally, any reasoning why you chose to turn existing metals into plastic rather than somethin new?

Very positive move though - good luck with it :-)

The plastic resin compound is from Ed @ Troll Forged Miniatures. This really evolved from our Chibi Dungeon Adventurers project as we needed to find a way to cast those figures, who have large heads, in something other than metal. Metal would have made the project entirely too costly. Enter in Ed's proprietary product. It's the same material that recent kickstarter from RedBox games used. It can be colored so that's black, grey, white, blue, etc or even clear. It's very light. It produces excellent detail on the figures, better than metal, IMO.

Why current models? First, we are busy creating over 60 new miniatures for our Chibi Dungeon Adventurer line so the focus on new things is there. Second, these two lines are really good and versatile and we thought this would be a good way to introduce it to the community. The cost of moving over for existing miniatures is pretty easy but the price drop we can offer you, our customers, is tremendous.

Those are of the original pewter but the plastic figures have the same level of detail so there is no difference in the figures.
Also, would you mind explaining what plastic resin is? I'm interested to understand how the material works & feels.
The plastic resin we are using is a hard (80D) custom mix containing high impact polystyrene. It is much harder, and tougher, than resin. Heat resistant up to 200F, and can handle prolonged exposure at 150F. It can be super-glued together, and takes standard miniature paints.
Finally, any reasoning why you chose to turn existing metals into plastic rather than somethin new?
Cost.

Converting the Sarcos or the Scotlings from metal to plastic cost cost 95% less than creating a new 12 figure team in plastic. So if you are going to branch into a new product line to see if it sells as a business ... this made a lot more sense to us as these are two of our best selling team sets right now.

That doesn't say we won't be looking at making new teams in plastic during 2013. But for the first venture into testing new water ... much better to keep it reasonable on cost so we don't damage the company.
Very positive move though - good luck with it :-)
Thanks

Sounds awesome.

I do prefer some of my teams to be full metal.
I can however very well imagine that instead of metal Dark Elves or Norse, I´d pick up both at this price!

This is very exciting! Please keep us informed on how this progresses.

Sarcos are definately a team I´d like to keep metal personally. Which reminds me, I still need to order to Glavials and 2 baby Sarcos from you guys.

Bravo, guys! My one resolution this year was to not buy any miniatures. Looks like that resolution is down the pan already!

Great initiative; and I'm surprised and delighted at the choice of teams to use.

I'm one who'll always take plastic over metals, so this is something I'll absolutely be supporting.

As part of the plan ... everything we have is still available in pewter including the teams.

Might just be me (at work, so might be blocked), but I can't see the pics, nor can I access the Impact site.

I'm not having any problem.

I am very impressed with this move, however! Affordable, plastic BB teams are a rare find nowadays.

Scratch that - seems I can't get there via TFF - go via Google, and I've found them.
Shown them to my mate (sitting across the desk from me), and he's going to be putting in an order for the Sacros for the ARBBL. He really liked them when he saw the metal ones in at our tourney, but couldn't justify the cost (to himself) - at just over £20, he's in.

I imagine both of us will be all over the Sirigits when (if) they convert over.
