I threw a bit more paint on the Oni yesterday....
in particular I put on the silver scales on his armour, highlighted the green bits, applied the spot colour to his belt and tackled the swirly smoke around the base




Still to do:
Chains (of which there are a lot!)
Gold ridges to all the green armour and his crown
Hair & mustache to highlight
Claws - I'm not sure whether to do these as steel claws, or make them bone as if they're growing out of his hands.

Yeah, I've painted quite a few Impact models now, and these are up there. They definitely look better in the flesh than on their webstore...although I didn't fully appreciate this until I'd undercoated them in white.

Hasslefree do a nice ninja model, and there are a few on the Perry website that Deathwing has linked to

I've put the finishing touches to the Oni.
My overhead light swung down and dropped on his head while I was setting this up, hence the chipped paint on the hair




I'll be painting the linemen next - I'm probably going to show some slight variation on each so that they can be told apart.

Ideas are:-
anti-glare black lines underneath the eyes
deep scarring across chest/shoulder (this will probably be the poor chap who has to summon the oni, with the scars to prove it!)
different colour head bands

That Oni is brilliant, love colours, esp the green and gold shoulderpads.

Cheers Norse - I've had the model for a while and I'm pretty sure I bought it on the back of your suggestion on the Impact forum.
I wanted the smoke to look like it was crackling with otherwordly lightning, if that makes any sense at all

Mini update: (I haven't been painting much in the last week)

The theory behind this team is that I want each position to be instantly recognisable to any opponent, but they also need to have distinguishing features so that skill-ups can be remembered.

The Divine Wind team seemed the perfect choice for this. I'm not much for green stuff, or converting in particular, so the distinguishing marks need to be done with paint.
Two ways this can be done:-
Paint on specific features, such as moustaches etc
Play around with the colour scheme so that one lineman has yellow shoulderpads, green knee pads, the next has green shoulderpads, etc etc.

I'm going to be doing a mix of both.

So....all that out of the way, here's the team as they stand so far:
(Suggestions for imaginative orientally themed names would be welcomed!)

Hondo (Lineman 1)


Stubble (Lineman 2)


Lineman 3 will have a fu-manchu moustache and beard, Lineman 4 will have large scars across his chest. I'm open to suggestion for Lineman 5....I thought about tattoos, but not sure how this will look yet.

Preying Mantis (Catcher 1)


The catchers will have different colour cowls...the next one is already underway.
Catcher 2 - in progress....will have black cowl....Maybe called Shadow, or Winter


(Blitzer 1)


The different blitzers will have various colour helmets...yellow, gold, dark red. Maybe one with a moustache.

(Thrower 1)


Thrower 2 will have a different coloured hat (Kasa, I think these are called)

Oni Won Kenobi (Ogre)

This team brings back fond memories of legend of the 5 rings ccg and rpg. In the rpg I had an ONI called ONI Wan, and a samurai named doji Kurri lol. Great team

Hmmm....I need to pick my paintbrush up again.
These have now been sat idle on my painting table for a good while.

The second ninja is finished and I started the next samurai.

very nice, indeed! very big shame this team has only 4 figures. but that could be saidf about all of phils concert teams(i would have loved more gnolls or middle easter figures).
always wondered whey impact! never expanded on these teams(besides that valks. but thats because of the "guys buy female figures" idea, id guess.

Nice paint work on the team and, at least for me, they look quite original, I've never seen a Human team like yours before.
