Need help with a Standard or Custom pitch [FF Fields?]

Post by The Dazzler »

Fellas,

Thoughts on a good but generic BB pitch? Like most of you, i jump between teams. While i would like a pitch for each team, its just not going to happen.

Ideas or should i just bite the bullet and get the best [read: least specific] of one of the standard FF Field pitches?

I quite the Graveyard, Norse & Rats pitches

Cheers

James

That's certainly an option. Sanabeso also sells some fairly generic mats, directly and through Comixininos.

They do a nice, generic pitch for Comixininos, very similar to the boxset board:

I have one for generic use, exactly because I'm resisting the urge to buy a pitch for every team, and it's spot on.
P&P is the same as ordering direct from FF Fields.

I like the FFFields pitches. Don't know you're budget, but you could do what I did, and rather than go for full customization, make a few changes to the standard ones to suit you.
My pitch is the Imperial looking one, but with the centre image from the dwarf one, which does for both my elf/wood elf team and dwarves.

I'm Red/Green colour-blind so some of the Standard pitches don't work for me, particularly the darker ones. I have 2 GW pitches, one of which looks almost new [bought in sale for a couple of quid] so this is a "nice to have" and should look different.

I had narrowed it down the Graveyard, Skaven and Frozen Tundra although i like the idea of tweaking a Standard pitch. I should theme it to my favourite team, i'm just trying to figure out which that is ...

[EDIT: the basic Skaven pitch and swapping the central logo out is currently favourite. There is something though about the Tundra pitch which appeals. Prthaps its the monochrome!!]

Cheers Mr. Woodward, we should indeed get a game in sometime.

The frozen tundra one has a decidedly blue tinge to it in the flesh, but I do love the way the centrefield image and whatnot is cut through the snow to show the astrogranite.

The Skaven pitch is, I reckon, about the coolest standard pitch.

They're very good to deal with if you go the customised route. One of the guys at the club already has one, and we're in the process of having the club logo redone to have a CACK Bowl pitch made up.

Cheers Jon,

I might just go standard Frozen Tundra as the [lack of] colours is good for me

Are you going to Waterbowl?

No mate. The venue is the issue.

I'll be at Merseybowl, Monkeybowl and the NAF Champs. Probably others but undecided which ones yet.

At the moment, i can't make up my mind whether i go for from FF Fields:

1. Standard jigsaw Frozen Tundra or Graveyard (Ahh choices choices ...!) unaltered; or

2. The "Rats" Standard board but with the central Skaven design, randomised D8 marker and any obvious Skaven references that i've missed (not the grids though on the square 7s - i really like those) removed and replaced with the Flaming Skull designs (perhaps in yellow?) from The Cursed Flames board.

Any thoughts/improvements guys along those lines with those boards? I'm trying to keep it reasonably generic.

Thanks fellas

James

I played Evil Trev yesterday on his lovely FF Fields Sand and Bones pitch. I think i'm going to get the Skaven pitch but have it themed for my Gobbo team, the Mean Greenies.

The only problem i had was that i couldn't make out the square corners in the centre of the pitch in the central logo. So naturally, Trev camped there for the game ..

I'll have to give that some thought when planning mine.

Can anyone suggest a nice logo for the pitch centre etc for Gobbos that doesn't upset Granny? I tend to lean towards Bad Moon types

Cheers fellas

After all that, and having seen the pitches at Waterbowl i'm going to order the Standard Warped Rats pitch in the roll-up version. It will go well with my Underworld, Skaven [& Gobbos] teams.

I would have liked to have seen the Frozen Tundra pitch in the flesh as it were as i think that that is the most generic field and would suit the majority of my teams [Dwarves, CDs, Pact/Norse, Undead/Necros etc) I'm just slightly concerned whether i can see the grid around the central logo [colour-blind] as the Sand and Bones one is a nightmare (for me). I might buy that yet.

Anyone have any thoughts on the roll-up mats? I hearv that they're fine and lay flat although i noticed that one guy was using magnets on the corners.

Thanks,

James
