I don't mean to ignore you, I just hate using Vamps - I've never enjoyed a single game with them...I'd go so far as to say they're my least favourite team.

So probably not Vamps ;)

The custom heads will be too large for Wyches I think as they're quite slender and Bob sculpts robust figures. I can always mock one up at some point.

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

Fantastic concept/convert team job, congrats!
I have a few of those harpies and really love their 'old school' look.
Great sculpts indeed!

Looking forward to see this develop!

Was not sold on it the first time I had a look but they're growing on me.
I think it's the old school nostalgia taking over ;)

You can get away with a few rosters for this one I guess.
Slann is the obvious first for me.
Wood-elf: due to the colours you've been using (flying around or dodging around in low armour, what's the difference ?)
Humans: why not, they're are kind of humanoid after all
Chaos pact: They have a weird enough feeling about them... but you'd need some more positionals for this

Just a note on the colours - those first models will get repainted. At the moment all the green/grey is just conversion work over the top of an existing paintjob :)

A test sample of the harpy heads arrived this morning, and this is what it looks like mounted on a model:

Image

The helmet makes it look a bit wider than the original harpy female head (if I'm honest I'd have preferred it just a tad smaller), but I think it's a tolerable scale match. The body for the figure in the centre still needs plenty of work be she's finished, but the eagle-eyed (harpy-eyed?) of you will notice that it's the lord of change again, but this time with female anatomy.

yeah, agreed, maybe a fraction too big, but tolerable.. bulking out the shoulders a little ought to disguise any tiny scale issues as well..

Might be the combination of painting style and sculptor, but these strike me as very Ray Harryhausen. In a good way.

Did some work on fitting a head to one of the Olley bodies. Pretty happy with how this one's turned out:

This particular girl will be heading off to the Thrudball charity auction all being well.

Where do you find these? I'd like about ten of them to make a Streetball Slann team.

More updates please.

Ebay I'm afraid. Just do searches for harpies - lots come along at a rate of 1 per week or so, ranging from £2-£15 per figure. I think my selection averages £5-6 per model.

Easter kind of got in the way of doing anything the last fortnightl but hopefully I can show some more progress next week :)

@ink - perhaps I'll convert up a nice star with mustache and scarf. I already know where to lay my hands on a Bob Olley figure with a flying helmet ;)

Edit: just to keep you interested, this harpy has been at about 80% complete for a week or so. I figured I'd take a photo as I have it in my desk. She still needs pads and strapping, but all the tricky cutting and pinning has been done. I'm not entirely happy with the sculpting on the claws, but I figure I can hide the worst with paint ;)

Luv it! Although, I'm not quite sure which skill is in play. Throw opponent's team mate, maybe?

I was going to go with wrestle, but I do like the idea of throw opponent's team mate ;)

Galak used to have experimental rules for that skill in PBEM about 8 years ago. The skill was called "Pitch Player" and could only be taken by BGs who already had TTM. It allowed them to pick up opposing players with Right Stuff and throw them, usually into the crowd.. LOL

anyway, enough history lesson for one day.. love the sculpting ax..
