The finished team looks great, wish I could have been at the GT to see them in the “flesh”.

Is always good to be able to have a good look at teams to steal ideas, I mean draw inspiration from them. I had a very similar varnish disaster with my Khemri, I was in a rush so sprayed the whole team at once and the new GW varnish was a satin finish which made them go all cloudy. I had to spend several frantic hours fixing this and only just made the cut off to post them to PeteW.

How did you get on in the painting comp? If you didn’t win I really want to see pics of the team that did.

Thanks again for all the great feedback. I had loads of thumbs up from people at the NAF, both TFF and non-TFF and it's great to have made a team that people like so much!

I have to say that I never expected to enter the painting comp, as the team was a converting job primarily and I'm nowhere near the standard of many painters, so it was no surprise that they didn't get shortlisted. Of the 9 teams that were shortlisted I think that 8 of them topped my paintjob; my only disappointment with the shortlisted teams was that 7/9 (IIRC) were simply well-painted "out of the box" models, and there were loads of really nice themed/converted teams which got overloooked.

spubbbba - thanks for the vote of confidence anyhow (as well as those of you who were kind enough to say my guys should have been shortlisted ;) )

As for the games themselves, I came away with 1 win, 2 draws and 3 losses (I could/should have won both draws but couldn't get the scores!). Great fun and great opponents though!

Just need to think of a project for next year :)

Thought I'd give a little synopsis of my game results

Game 1 versus Sigismund's Underworld
Image
I got paired with my mate's new Underworld team, the Deep Down Dodgers. The two drawn pre-competition friendlies counted for nothing here as the Shift were slow out of the blocks. The speed of the skaven, the early loss of werewolf captain Albrecht Wulf and a liberal helping of luck stacked the odds in the Dodgers’ favour (Necro loss 0-3, 2 Cas).

Game 2 versus Antipixi's Chaos Pact
Image
A classic back and forth match; I scored quickly, the Pact equalised, but with Pact KOs & casualties mounting up I scored a 2nd (Necro win 2-1, 2 Cas).

Game 3 versus Manuela's Dwarfs
Image
Not just beaten, but knocked to the floor and stamped on. Both werewolves injured and some supreme luck on the side of the Dwarfs battered my team into submission (Necro loss 0-2, 1 Cas).

Game 4 versus Pete's Lizardmen
Image
A new day dawned, and with some strong words from the coaching staff! I made a flying start and scored easily, only to concede an equaliser before half-time. I dominated the start of the 2nd half, getting a ghoul within 2 squares of the end zone, before a break tackle Krox and 2 crazy dodging going for it skinks tied him up. A blitz then dodge away from a skink to score failed, and the lizzies managed to move the ball from their end zone to chance a hand off for a score to a Saurus with the last action of the game. The ball was dropped so we stayed tied (draw 1-1, 3 Cas)

Game 5 versus Schmee's Orcs
Image
Orcs with Morg - dear God! The Shift scored quickly, then suffered two identical plays as Morg blitzed to score twice in unstoppable fashion! (Necro loss 1-2, 1 Cas).

Game 6 versus Tuan's Dwarfs
Image
Yet another quick start and a fast 1st turn TD, followed up by a blitz defence leading to a frustrating failed attempt to make it 2-0 at half-time. The second half was all about the unbreakable Dwarf cage, dragging out 8 turns of steady movement to my end zone for the draw (draw 1-1, 3 Cas).

All great games, but my favourite was v Antipixi - real back and forth play and a tense finale!

I was looking out for this team, so was very pleased to find myself playing it!

It was an epic game and really could have gone either way for most of the match. axiom deserved the win and was an excellent opponent. I hope we get a rematch next year!

You're on ;)

So, what happens post-NAF? Obviously I need to think of a new project for 2013, but there's plenty of time for that. In the interim I thought I'd finish off the Necro squad up to 16. That means 3 additional zombies and a 2nd Flesh Golem.

I've had a conversion in mind for the 2nd Flesh Golem ever since I did the first, but only sourced the final donor model this weekend. So last night I built this chap:

Image

The conversion is essentially a retread of the first FG, but with a different ogre torso. Rather than Necromunda scaley legs, I eventually sourced a Mordheim carnival of chaos strongman which has a similar feel to the first. Finally, having chopped up Bilerot for my fat rat skaven conversion, his head seemed to fit nicely. The resulting FG should make a nice buddy to the first.

As for the remaining zombies, one of the zombies was already converted (the eagle-eyed among you will have noticed I didn't use one of the zombies from Jan). I'll use the same source 1st ed zombie for the other two, but need some suggestions on what to do for them - any skills that a zombie would take that could be modelled (I already did a zombie dirty player)?

The team you have shown on here is awesome. I love the necro theme and these minis are very cool. It was a shame to not see these in the flesh at the NAF. I love the conversions. Just brilliant.

Was searching Google today for 'blood bowl flesh golem' and got sent to this post. OMG Best flesh golem and werewolf models I've seen. A late thank you for sharing! Any news on how the 16 person team came out?

Very kind of you to resurrect (boom boom!) this thread - glad you like the team!

To my embarrassment, the team is unchanged from the last post nearly a year ago  . The 2nd Golem is still unpainted (although he has seen action), and I haven't seen any need to make the final 2 zombies. Plus the Skaven team have taken up most of my attention. Perhaps I'll paint up the 2nd Golem over the next couple of weeks...
