How did you shade the underside of the hood on #8? Almost looks like you blended up from gray.

That part needs some work still. It's blended in to grey and black on top of the yellow base.siggyllama wrote:How did you shade the underside of the hood on #8? Almost looks like you blended up from gray.

Never heard of blending from light to dark, it is a common technique? I like the way it looks now.

Check out Jim Wappel's blog. He talks about blending from light to dark.siggyllama wrote:Never heard of blending from light to dark, it is a common technique? I like the way it looks now.

Nice teams
Love the bright purple on the skaven and the goblins are very cool- nice colors and cool poses- Gamezone goblins (think most of them are those?) are really nice and the impact shoulder pads worked perfect for them.

Re: Blacknexion's Underworld (Goblins finished 20.5.)
Here’s my new Chaos Dwarf team, Gorgoth Crimson Gears.
This is a pretty complicated situation
These were commission painted by another Finn to an excellent standard. I got them and was very pleased, however, I started doing little modifications to them, and that got really out of hand. I ended up “Finishing” them for around 15-20 hours plus basing. I’m not sure how much time he spent on them, so I’m not sure if I should call it a collaboration instead of a commission now.
Because of this I have listed below everything (unless I forgot something) I did to them, just to make it clear who did what.
All the conversions were done by me (earlier in this thread)
Here’s a list of what I did (…It’s a boring read) :
-Two different washes on the orange beards, followed by four highlights on every piece.
-Painted the eyes on everything else except the dwarf blockers
-Painted the tongues on the bulls and the big chaos dwarf
-Two highlights on teeth all around
-One highlight on the red hobgoblin armour
-2-3 highlights on some leather and cloth parts
-3 different shadow washes on the tentacles on the CD and 3 highlights on the suckers on him plus on the tail of the mino
-Wash and three highlights on the woodpieces of the Dwarves
-Added white highlights on the dwarf blockers eyes
-Added more scratches on dwarves armour, painted white primer around every scratch
-Re painted the dwarves loincloths off-white (two or three dark blends and 4-5 highlight blends (they were brownish to begin with)
-3 highlight blends on the dwarves red armour
-Picked out details, like the fine threads on the hobgoblins hands and on the dwarves horns, bags, piping, stitches, etc.
-Added two layers of rust pigments on plain metal armour
-Several black and brown washes and two highlights on plain metal parts
-Some extra shading washes on skin parts here and there
-3 highlight blends on the skin and bone parts of the minotaur and the bull centaurs
-Added blood details on the minotaur and the bull centaurs
-Changed one of the shoulder pads on the mino to red. Weathering (rust & scratches on both shoulder pads)
-Added shading on the underside of the dwarves "eyes" (broken lenses)
-Shading and highlights on the strings in the bull centaurs' hair
-All the basing
And finally here are the pictures.

And now I have to run and lift some things, I'll be back later to check on typos and whatnot

They look finished now, feel free to ship them to me as previously agreed...
Seriously though, you guys should collaborate more often, this is one of the finest painjobs I have ever seen! I'm not 100% sold on the mix of different Rackham figs, but that aside - wow! Just, WOW!

WOW! That is a stunning paintjob. And the minis are great to. One of the best teams I have seen.

Thanks, Norse & Lard. And all the others who commented on the Goblin entry.
@Norse: Sure, you can have them... For a lot of money
I think I'll play with them for a while though. We have the weakest league in existence. Since there's only one other guy playing besides me, we both have to play 4 teams. Good times!
I had in mind to get him to paint the Nurgle team, but then I was thinking of converting a dark elf team as well... This time do a very very basic job, only the base colours and the washes (he's excellent at this, I didn't add anything to the hobgoblin skin), I would do all the more intricate stuff. That would speed up my painting and getting teams done by about 80%. His style is very monochromatic and mine is almost the opposite.
It would be nice to do stuff like this with other painters as well.
Next up: Display base for this lot, including actual crimson gears.

Love the painting style, the contrast from light to dark is amazing. How do you get so much colour without going to white.

Not all of the figs are my favorite (although I really like the hobs) but paintjob-wise? These are absolutely incredible. Just...wow. Amazing. Seriously amazing work.
