really interesting topic.

I really like the idea of using those ogres as vamps, no so sure about the thralls though, they are great for a dark elf team but with far too much armour for my taste as thralls.

Like the work you are doing with the lizardmen team and with the krox, a closer pic of the krox finished would be nice :orc:

Also, that tree looks very cool! Love the colour scheme you've started on him there!

Yeah it was never meant to be a vampire team. I built it as a dark elf team, then a new coach showed up a week before the season began with a dark elf team so I changed it last minute. Then a vampire coach joined the league after they were finished...

The krox is 1/3rd through its greenstuffing. Still tons of scales to sculpt. Ill get better pics up soon.

Stoked to see how this turns out. Assume those wings are for the head-fan-thing, like on the Saurii?

APES

Post by lithophile »

APES OF WRATH!

You guys. They are great. I love the resin sculpts. They were dirt cheap too.
I reckon I can do an ape team, a chaos dwarf team and a underworld team with this kit.
Ill add another silver back and some gorillas to make the chaos dwarf roster.
As for the underworld, mix in some forest gobos and you have 'Overworld'

I have started work on reposing the line chimps.

A few air bubbles on the chimp chin and the silverbacks chest. The orangutans have some hand details missing. Great quality otherwise, flash and mold lines minimal.

EDIT: Here is an extra pic for scale.

The Lizards are mid way through painting, bar some greenstuff work that is still needed on 2 or 3 minis. Winter league 2513 is coming.

On the "chop" matter, how did you actually chopped it?
Did you used that blade you show up there?
How does the resin feels (in terms of chop and pin), comparing to GW plastics?

I have limited experience with resin, but the couple of models I've worked on, the resin was so brittle, that if I ever tried to chop them with a regular x-blade, there was no way they would end with such clean cut as you have on that chimp.
Pinning would probably be a problem, and apparently it worked great for you.
Care to share the experience?
Thanks!
A.

I thought the resin Gorillas were supposed to be the armoured ones. Yours don't appear to be wearing armour.

Do the armour pieces come as part of the kit?

Yes they are included in all 3 of the plastic teams.

All Gorilla come without armour or pants. You decide if you want to put the pieces on.

This is my first time working with resin. They are hard and brittle compared to GW plastics but I found working with them easy. Anecdotally I know that they are better quality than the dreadball resin teams.

I used a scalpel saw (like this) to cut the limbs. It cuts cleanly but slowly. Shteve0 cut them with a sharp knife and brute force, and got good results too. I was hesitant to go for the brute force method, because they are so much harder than plastics and I don't trust my cheap scalpel to not snap.

Cleaning up the cuts was easy enough. I used a knife and/ or file. They were a joy to pin, I didn't have any issues at all drilling into them.

I do not have Impact resin figs yet, but you can buy a fine tooth saw blade for your Xacto knoves that I think would work well. The shape is the same as a normal blade it just has a fine tooth saw on the cutting edge.

I should have some Impact resin teams before Christmas. Amazons for sure and maybe AoW.
