And the last paint job I gave them had really dulled them down to "regular wargaming minis" because of all of the metal colors. This time around I'll give 'em a three-color scheme on everything, even the chain mail to give them that more sports y look. Didn't mean to thread-jack, just something to keep an eye on :) Your paint job is awesome.. I always dread the eyes, and would almost rather not paint them in.
Duly noted, and thanks a lot! Yeah, the eyes are always a motherf***ing pain in the arse! I'm medium satisfied with this bloke's but I know; going back and trying to redo them will only end in pain. Plus, the only ones that will be looking at his eyes, are other bulgy eyed miniatures, so - what the heck?! :o

Cheers!! Happy to hear so. :D

A boring update, AKA painting browns...

Progress has been slow, but to prove I'm getting something done, here's a picture of what I've done this week. I've started doing the browns and damn(!) it's boring work. I use thinned down paint, so the coverage is not complete. Still needs another layer... :-?

Image

But - regarding browns; what to do with the hair? At first, I thought I was going do all the hair in the same brown colour as the test model to make things easy on myself and to get a more streamlined look on the team, but now I'm not so sure. Is it going be to boring with all brown hair? I'm considering using alternate colours on the miniature doubles, so that no two miniatures will look exactly alike. What do you reckon?

As always, comments and thoughts are very welcome! :D

Well, you know what they say; keep your paints close and your tissues closer.

First and foremost: Sorry for not replying to those, who were so kind as to reply to my thread. Really! It won’t happen again.

So, I’ve been a lazy bugger!

Well, I haven’t, actually… I went from studying to working, and with 37 hours a week, an hour each way in transport, and two small kids – well, I find, it’s not exactly easy to find the time for painting.

But, enough whining. I’m back! At least with an update. And a few pictures.

First off, I took your advice into consideration. I’m not saying, I’m convinced by it. I’m just saying, I took it into consideration. ;) So I decided to go for a test run with a blue shoulder pad. (Bear in mind, the figure is not finished. He’s still a WIP. Plus, all of the following pictures are taken with my phone.)

I must admit, the blue shoulder pad gives the player more of a sporty look, but on the other hand, I still quite like the metal version, as well. What do you guys think? Which is better of the two? As an alternative, I’ve also considered keeping them both the way they are, and making one of each type shoulder pad for the doublet miniatures. Again, what do you think?

Here is actually where things started going downhill in regards to painting. Yes, yes, work and stuff, but I was also a bit “disillusioned” about the painting. Specifically; my painting. I was not happy with the flesh/skin painting. Not so much the colour – I was still experimenting on that – but the painting of the skin. I just didn’t (/don’t) like it. Didn’t like the result. Didn’t know how to make it better, either. So, while using my lack of skills as an excuse for not painting the team, I made the team a ball:

Image

Quite pleased with that, but a ball’s just – well, a ball. It’s a nice little extra for your finished team. Not when you still haven’t finished your second player! Plus, you really just need one ball for a team, so I had no more excuses. Which is why, I chose to do what any self-respecting man would do, and not face my problems. Hence, the long silence.

A few days ago, I finally picked up my brushes again, and decided to try and do something about it. And long story short; I’m quite happy with the results. No, they are not perfect, but it’s way better than my previous work, and I finally feel like I’m moving forward, paint-wise. I’ve tried building up from two different base colours. I think, my favourite is somewhere in between, so I’ll try mixing them next time. I don’t mind the players having different skin tones. It just adds a bit of personality to them.

Please, let me know what you think. As always, feedback is greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Not convinced with the metal shoulder pad... what about color, but flipped for the repeated miniatures? White with blue lines?

I like the color look more than the metal.

I think blue on white or white on blue could work well.

Great looking team. Like the bright colors!

Hmm, interesting idea! I may try that one on for size. Cheers!

Interesting as well, but I think I like Steam Ball's suggestion better. Cheers, though!
