Playing Hobbits. How do you handle elf teams?

Post by RogueThirteen »

So I've decided to play Halflings in the upcoming season. I think I have a sense of how you beat bashy teams (trap as many as you can between trees, place Halflings to keep them from dodging off the trees, etc).

What in the heck can do you do against agile teams that will just make the trees irrelevant? How do you bring down a blodger with no wrestle and tackle? It seems to me like Blodgers will be nigh invicible against Halflings. At least with Ogres (who I've enjoyed some success with), you can usually orchestrate a 3-Die blitz against them when needed. Lizards (who I've also been successful with) can rely on a BT/Tackle saurus or two. Goblins have chainsaws.

So, what's go to strategy against blodgers for 'Flings? Just throw flings and hope you get lucky with the missile, than foul, foul, foul?

1) Stunty works, even without titchy

2) Receive if possible. This allows you to grind, and with three trees, you can do a lot of damage

3) Foul whenever possible (any downed positional)

4) Puggy is your friend. With block and str3, he does a lot of damage to starting elf teams.

5) Wizards

6) Leap sucks. Wardancers will get in and destroy your cage. The best you can try to do is to make it difficult for them to cut off your assists. If all else fails, ensure you can lay a lot of hurt on the pesky wood elf on your following turn.

7) Set up with your trees spread out as much as possible. You need to try and deny the board to them.

8) The chef. One benefit of elf teams is that they often go without oodles of rerolls. The chef can easily steal what few they do have, which at least maximises their chances of failure.

***edit*** I am amused that my halfling rating appears in my signature as I post this

What's the context? Is it joining an established league or all teams starting fresh?

On offence, three die blocks with the trees, followed up by fouling is a very painful experience for the elves (speaking from personal experience! :( ) Getting an early numbers advantage and building on it is the key.

Some diving tackle (plus side step) can also make life difficult for blodgers.

Play nasty...single out a player and gang bash them..half the team if needed! I get red mist with elves ...I ignore score and go for severed head count...sometime use the "Mortar Formation" to bring down 1 or 2 on occasion...nothing wrong with the trees having an impromptu game of elf tennis mid game!!

Staying away from Deeproot is probably an idea, Bertha is pretty fast and mobile and got the strength to get a 3d block here and there. Against AV7 elves Zara can probably do a little stabbing, and maybe carry the ball with ST4 blodge. And Morg is solid as always if you get really big inducements.

At 100k chef is a must have against any team I think but wouldn't say it's anything special against elves, they got cheap rerolls so often have 4 of them and on top of that they got skill rerolls all over the place.

And as said, foul foul foul! :)
