Strong Winds and touchbacks

Post by Red Orc »

In our league we use the different types of stadium locales with a wider range of weather types.
One of these being Stong Winds.
"Roll D8 to randomly determine the wind direction. All Kick-Off's and Inaccurate Passes will travel an additional D6 squares in that direction when determining scatter.
Now say the kick off scatters out of bounce, but the winds would be blowing it back in. Would you concider that fair, or a touchback?
What if the kick off scatters to the other side of the pitch, but the winds would be blowing it back over. Would that be concidered good, or a touchback?

usually as soon as something goes over the sideline its considered out of bounds

so a inaccurate pass that goes out of bounds on the first d8 roll is out you don't roll the other 2 d8 rolls, which could otherwise bring it back in

its just the most simple method and clear way of dealing with it

Realistically you would factor in the wind before seeing if the ball winds up in the crowd. For a more simple approach you would say that any time the ball goes out, then it doesn't come back in.

Personally, if you are bothering with a wind effect I would use the first option.

It's only a touchback if it lands out of bounds or in your half. What path it travels is irrelevant.

Sounds like a fun houserule. I would say if it gets blown back inbounds, its a live ball.
