unbreakable Ball n chain

Post by snakees »

How many goblin coach starts a match with the epic phrase :
That's the ball n chain goblin but the ball is gone
I will be this guy sooner or later because the chain is so offen move that a single pow can break the chain. Is there a way to make the chain unbreakable ?

I was thinking to cut the chain, dig a hole in the ball and in the hand. Then put a wire from the hand up to the ball and sculpt a chain with green stuff. Is it the right way or is there something more easy ?

I've never had an issue - is this an older metal mini or a newer plastic fanatic??

either way, I'd recommend picking up this guy instead.. no chain to break.. :D

that's a big ball and a small chain.. almost as likely to break as the Neomics one...

plus, I'll give GW a hard time over a lot of decision they made, but the quality of their casting (i.e. how good the metal is) was never an issue.. some of these independent companies appear to use much softer pewter which bends and breaks easily.. I love my RJ frogs, but they are SO easily bent and damaged!

if you insist on using the fanatic, which I assume you do, best I can suggest is to hit ebay for a plastic ball and chain from the GW fanatics and replace the heavy ball with a plastic one...

or get a plastic GW fanatic and do some "Nipponising" to him in green stuff..

Ok, but not in the japan theme, I'll stay with my miniature but find a solution for the chain.

I think I'll try the wire. If it's too hard to do, I'll buy a plastic ball n chain on ebay and paste it on mine.

To keep the mini as close to the original, I would say the wire (plus green stuff to rebuild the chain), would be the best option IMO.
And if you do it make sure the final position of the ball doesn't make the figure too out of balance (causing it to fall with the slightest "breeze").

Good luck with that and let us know how you've solved it.
Cheers,
A.

Can you carefully straighten the chain and drill it out completly, then run a pin wire up the chain into the ball and into the had on other end, then greenstuff the cuts.

I always preferred to replace cast pewter or white metal chain imitations with real jewelers chain. Just cut and shave the original chain off, drill two 1mm holes right next to each other, bend a piece of 1mm steel wire and cut to size of half a chain link plus the depth of the holes you drilled, cut out the desired length of chain and link the steel wire ends through it. Then glue them in to the holes drilled. Stays flexible that way. If you want to position your chain you can use a good 2 component epoxy glue and wipe off excess glue after positioning. It would be best to position the piece of chain before you glue it to the miniatiure. That way you can position your chain end on a piece of paper and leave the glue to set.
