First painted mini after 15 years

Post by Ginjasy »

I have just started painting after a 15 year break.
I know Im not very good but hope to get plenty of practice as I need to get an Orc team ready for some Tournies this year.
Here is the first Lineman ready (apart from the base).

Not bad. I'd however suggest that you paint the clothes in a different color than the armour, to give the model a bit more life.
I usually go for two or three team colors to tie the team together.

Keep up the good work

Thanks for the advice. Maybe black for the clothes with brown boots would look better.
Oh well, think Ill paint up the rest in these colours and Ill do my humans blue and yellow.
Should have a bit more practice by then as I have a Morg that I want to paint but would like it to look half decent.

for me would be best to keep them same colours for now, can always redo them if you wanted to.
Have just got into painting myself after a long break, there's loads of videos out there and advice around to get different effects too. One thing I've found is I think I'm improving all the time, just finishing up my third team and am really much happier with this one than the last 2. So keep going and enjoy it! already looking great so will only improve :-)

Im 31 now and the last time I painted I was 15. Didnt have all the great resources we have now.
I didnt even thin my paints when I was young as I didnt realise you had to.
Used to use GW paints but Ive got all Army Painter now and Im very pleased with them, just waiting for my Vallejo brush on Varnish now.

Clean painting, good color choice, and a nice looking base.

You are on pace to have a good looking team done up quickly!

You're doing fine! :)

What I'm interested in, however, is where'd you get these 'long' bottles of what seems to be GW paint. 'Citadel Layer Flash Yellow" and "Cidadel Layer ... (Something Blue)"? AFAIK, GW doesn't make these kind of bottles and never has.

Looks to me like a label pulled off the GW bottle and stuck on a dropper style.

I'm glad you asked that as it's exactly what I was wondering. One if my pet hates with the citadel range is how clogged and messy the stupid pots get. Been trying Vallejo just because of that!

Oh, and nice paint job, btw :-)

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I've nearly got the 4 Blitzers done too then it will be on to the 4 Black Orca.
The 2 dropper bottles with GW labels are just that. I poured the GW paint into some spare droppers, to get as much out as possible I add a few drops of water and flow mix and give it a shake and our out the rest, then I use a cheapo size 6 brush to sort of scoop out the last few drops. I probably lose a few ml in the process but in the long run it should work out better as I hate the GW pots but there paint is OK, and my FLGS has them at 5 for £10.
Just ordered x20 Vallejo Droppers for my other GW paints.

Thanks for the info... I didn't realise you could buy empty droppers (duh!). Ordering some now :-)
