Wights for a Necromantic team?

Post by goldbaek »

Hi guys,

I'm on the verge of putting a new Necro team together. I've got the Flesh Golems sorted out and I have a pretty good idea of what I'm gonna use for the Wolves, Ghouls and Zombies. But I'm having a hard time finding the right Wights.

So, what models do you guys use as Wights? Any suggestions, pics, links etc. would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

For my Necromantic team I used the standard GW wight models, but snipped off their heads (which are rubbish) and replaced them with some other heads.
Can't remember the models I took them from.... my memory seems to want to say "Grave Guard"... but it was a while ago so I could be wrong.

I've since sold these, but there's a pic of them:

Mechanithralls from Privateer Press... still have some around if you are interested....

And I still have these that I was going to use as wights and coach:

I took the old plastic models and swapped heads, but the wights might look rather small, since the minis from the starter box are little less big.

Which minis are you using for the other positions? If you want a matching team, that would be a good starting point.

My personal opinion on the willy wights is: they are too big

Size definately matters... ;) Don't like them too small but each positional have match each other in size.

The Golems are the ones from Vortice (already bought 'em) and I think one of the Wolves will be their new Wolf #2. However, Willy's Wolves are also quite cool as well. I really like the Willy Zombies too and also considering the Willy Ghouls, although the one from Heresy is also quite nice and I also like the concept art for the Vortice Ghouls.

Depends on how much you care about size and scale across the team. I've a 1st/2nd edition team mostly and the Willy Wights are just too darn big, which was really disappointing. They're 32-35mm scale and dwarf older Citadel minis.

If your team is not too heroically scaled, the Withershadow Combine and Heresy ranges will fit in OK. If your team is chunky Citadel, they'll look too slender - they have normal sized head hands and feet compared to Citadel minis.

In the end I went with GW's 3rd ed Wights, but from what you've said your team is quite large in size (Vortice) so the Willy Wights might work.

I'm quite sure that the Willy Wights would fit rather nicely in, sizewise. However, I'm not really into them - looks a bit too much like heavily armoured skeletons IMO...
